I just happened to tap on the OnX Off Road app that I have on my phone that shows up on the Toyota screen. It stayed blank for about 15 seconds but when it came on it was in Satellite view. You can track and place waypoints. Not sure on driving directions or setting up routes. I haven't tried yet.

More than I need but still not enough.
I have personally found the map is great to have pulled up on the big screen, but using the app on my phone is much easier for anything I want to do within OnX

I recently paid into OnX as I was looking for a way to track routes in the backcountry without having to mount my GPS in the window as well. You can start and end track recording on the big screen without having to go to your phone, but I'm a little offput by the max size (4MB) of point files you can upload to the software. We upload whole state geodatabases to other apps and use them as we travel around, but they are way too large for OnX. So not sure if it will be the final solution.

Gaia got purchased by Outside. Reading about people unhappy with that.

Yep I dumped Gaia after they changed the privacy settings on submitted data- many of us have proprietary data we keep on our systems, and having it all cloud loaded isn't the best answer. OnX is in the same boat, really.

I use it a ton. It isn't as friendly on CarPlay as OnX and the satellite layer is poor. The only thing I saw that changed when they sold out was the price increase.

I had Gaia. I didn't use it for sometime. I went to log into it and it wanted to make me log in through some other site. I said screw this and tried OnX. I live 6300' in the Sierras. I know all the marked and unmarked roads and trails around me. I just thought it was better to see a satellite view instead of the normal old navigation map.
