Now it doesn't work! Anyone know the secret to putting it back right? I took off the screws but it never quite came off so I put them back and now it won't shift out of park. Something with the spring! I'm stuck! Here is a pic of the type of shifter.

Oh that would explain why I couldn't fully remove it. But I have it back together now and it's not shifting the tranny. The press-down button on top seems to just go down without engaging the tranny. Do I have to fully remove shifter again it to straighten it out, and if so how do I remove o/d switch? I just want to make it work again so I can move the truck

there was a thread on how to remove it with pictures just a few weeks ago but i cant find it. It just pops out with a pry from a tiny flat head but switch has to be somewhat disassembled to remove alltogether. Not sure what happend for it not to shift. I would remove the center console so the mechanism can be seen.

Thanks guys! Yup once I popped out that overdrive switch the handle came off and I could see that the inner stalk had rotated and was preventing the top thumb button from pushing down on it to actuate the tranny. Got it turned back the right way and it's all back together now. Great pics on that overdive switch too. Now on to the next stuff. Cheers
