    @JaCado

    I know this is about as far from a Tacoma as you can get, but this is my friend’s mom’s car that just got totaled after a free fell on it during a storm.

    F63BD39E-94DE-44F6-B863-0EAE776B1ABD.jpg BFE0D5B9-F783-4B57-9A91-CD5E8CE45CC7.jpg 9998086E-A157-4A51-9BA7-BB7CFF13C9CC.jpg

    It’s 2009 Chevy Cobalt with a little over 90K on the clock, purchased used and in cash maybe four years ago for the sole purpose of being a commuter appliance. My friend took and passed his driver’s test in this car probably a month before it got totaled. The car was locked when I took the picture, but apparently there is all sorts of structural damage and the car is only worth like four grand. This is one of my best friends in the world, and his family has become like a second family to me. However, it is worth noting that when they bought this shitbox I told them they’d have been better off with a Corolla of the same year.

    Not trying to be that guy, but this is why you don't buy your kids $40k trucks. No appreciation or hard work to value or care about it. Watched some kid dressed in head to toe brand new patagonia with boots (gotta look like you are all country out here in the Chicago burbs) taking delivery of his new TRD OR while mom and dad signed the paperwork...

    We don't know that, could be dad's truck. How many of us drove our dad's vehicle like it was a rental?:hattip:

    Course in my case, that was a 62 Corvair, 3 speed on the floor, in 1968.

    We really don't know much, or even if that blurb is truth. Does anyone have the real facts?

    My 2 cents....TIRES. Nope.

    If I drove my dad's vehicle like a rental, I would still be in traction!!! I had to buy my own vehicle, that I treated like a rental.

    Oh, I wasn't dumb enough to tell him what I did in it. I never would have seen the ripe old age of 17 if I did. I'm 41 and that truck is long gone, but to this day my dad only knows about half of what I did in his truck. When I was 17 I bought my own truck and even then he would question "character marks" that showed up on it. The dent on the right front quarter panel was from a deer running out in front of me and in no way shape or form was it from a stump on a trail that my truck had no business being on.

    Cars value is too little, cost to fix more than car value. Cheaper for insurance to cut them a check than it is the body shop.
    :anonymous: Got my dads car hung up on a pole guide wire. Couldn’t stop at a very icy intersection and slide off into the ditch up on the wire. Had to have my uncle being his wrecker to get me. I argued this wasn’t my fault, but I didn’t talk about all the racing, corn field booming, chasing down cars with his blue light (I bet he heard about this), and other stupid, dumb, crazy shit. Glad to be here, when I think about it.

    My first vehicle was a Tacoma, paid for by my dad, and I did not have to pay him back...

    However, it was a base model! I still have it more than 10 years and almost 107K miles later!
