Closed due to high cost of shipping- "faux" 3rd Gen TRD Pro skid plate group buy #5

I was a buyer of a second shipment of these skid plates. I am a satisfied, and non compensated, customer offering up a bit of a review for those who are interested.

I sent Albert a deposit around Dec. 20 of 2020. He was honest and up front about everything. He said he wouldn’t know the final price until they all arrived. That was fine with me. Or when they’d arrive - no big deal to me.
Low and behold they arrived right around Easter 2021. 3.5 months later. Once or twice he sent an email when he had shipping information to inform me about progress. An update of sorts.
The skid plate came with all the hardware and the TRD lettering. It did not come with any written instructions for installation. It came package nicely in a non descriptive box. In this case, it obviously is very “faux”. I’ve bought some real Toyota OEM stuff and it’s packaging is quite real, and shiny and whatnot. But it’s manufacturing was very good. All the bolts lined up. All the holes were circular, it is heavy, well constructed, and so on.
If you want one, I would recommend this route. I am not going to be wheeling - I just really liked the looks of them.
In the end I think the final cost was a bit less than $400.

Anyway - that is a bit of a review from my perspective.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm new to tacoma's. Does this cover the cat, and therefore so down the cat thieves?

No. I believe a an enhancement to the skid plate for the fuel tank will protect the cat. There is some discussion about this on the thread "what have you done with your 3rd Gen".

 

No it doesn’t , you would need and transmission side to slow them down , or add onto the trans skid

 

Aside from the cool factor of having the Pro plate you make access to the oil filter much easier. Also, if you do go muddin the plate is fairly easy to take off and clean.

 

I received the skid plate and installed it. Took me about 25 minutes. Didn't have anything to raise the truck (ie ramps, etc) and was able to do the install pretty easily. It looks absolutely awesome. Build quality and fit is A1.

Yes, even though the OEM units are "Made in Canada" we pay about $550 + tx Cdn.
