It's so big.. The rear mounts aren't cooperating but i'll see what i can do this weekend to help it fit.

 

My personal review on the rack: well it looks pretty damn good and it actually takes up the entire roof space which is awesome and complements the truck.

And now where things get dumb.. the mounting for the rack is pretty straightforward and easy, i had to adjust the mounts to the very front/back respectively. No problem. right?

The front seemed the most logical to start with, it went on no problems whatsoever.

The rear is where things get dumb.. It's like either the basket is too short, or the OEM crossbars are too far apart, and i could not mount it as easily as the front, i had to improvise and just "make it work for the time being until i could get to a dremel where i'll cut off the part that makes the rack bulge up..



I have pm'd sytfu510, as he's the only person on TW with the same rack i have mounted on the OEM roof rack, I'm waiting on a reply but there was someone on toyotanation who has the same setup i do and he had to dremel to make it fit as well so i'll prob do the same.

Did you get a sleeping bag yet?

 

nope.. been hunting around expo portal looking at various reviews, haven't nailed one down yet. Im going on my road trip in the summertime so i don't really need a 15 degree bag anymore, but i'll have a summer bag and a winter bag so if you have input as to what i should get that'll be cool.

 

I just have an old Coleman bag and a new Coleman 30* bag. Are you gonna be warm enough this weekend?

 

How well do those bags work for you when it's cold/warm?

I won't be sleeping in the tent this weekend, I'm just going down to get my bed rack built over the bestop. Then i'll have a permanent place to leave my rtt.

 

Mild cold they work fine, as cold as it was on top of that hill at Steven Toyota I was inside both of them and was good, in the warm I just sleep on top of one.

 

That hill was cold as fuck... I literally just got inside my truck after freezing in the bed under the bestop for 3 hours, cut it on, turnt the heat on and passed out.

 

The only thing that made that 27* night bearable was the electric blanket in the RTT. Without that i'd have been a Homercicle.

 

I wish i had an electric blanket..

I honestly have never felt so cold in my life.. .I felt almost dead..

Now that i have an RTT, i just need to invest in a proper cold weather sleeping bag and i should be kosher..

 

I had it plugged in to an outlet in the parking lot but in hindsight I could have just used the bed aux outlet too...

 

Could you in theory attach a extension cord to the electric blanket and run that bad boy up to the tent, keeping you warm for a long time.

Then again, you'd have to cut off the power and that would involve getting out the tent... never mind

 

Remote start. Does it also turn off the truck?

 

It sure does... Oh shit you just gave me another idea... it's an ongoing money pit, swear on my life.

I think that if no one comes inside the car after like 15mins it cuts off, just long enough to get warm and comfortable.

I couldn't sleep period. it was quite miserable.. now i've gotta find a remote start for cheap..

When i had that 2014 rental, the remote start was sooo convenient i swear..

 

The cord is long enough to reach the bed outlet on it's own. Also you can mod the outlet to work continuously.
Realistically, a dual battery setup and an upgraded inverter would be a better solution but it certainly would work that way now.
