Update: Bailed out before making the 5 hour round trip. Dude neglected to tell me this morning that the LX470 is leaking oil from the Rear main seal potentially lol..

After about 7 years i finally my cheap ass around to changing my suspension out. thanks to @dan0mite for the awasome setup. Im super pleased with the ride (it's a bit stiffer but who cares) and the front end finally picked back up was a pleasant surprise.

I havent driven my truck regularly in about a year so im gonna slowly creep on up once the world opens back up and i can go wheeling across the SE again lol

 

So i figure it's time for me to investigate the elephant in the room.

Sometimes my truck throws the dreaded P306 Cylinder 6 engine code.

I havent paid any attention to it until now because well

1.Haven't lost any coolant,
2.The code will clear itself as i drive it overtime and then come back.

Today i let the truck run with the coolant resevior tank cap open till it got to operating temps (199-200 according to my OBD Fusion app)

didnt see anything out the ordinary so i moved on to the next thing, i swapped the (new) #6 coil pack with the #4 and gonna see if the code comes back in the same cylinder or if it follows to the #4.

Other than that she's been driving nice and gravy.

Anyone with experience on other ways i can check if the Head Gasket is truly done would be appreciated.

 

I had the P306 on my truck a while back. I also tried EVERYTHING trying to avoid replacing the head gasket. At the end of the day it was the head gasket. It's my understanding that it is a small weep that happens only when the engine is hot. The materials expand with the heat and that's when the weep starts. It is such a small weep which is why you can't tell that your are loosing coolant and your oil does not get milky. I have not had any issues since the head gasket was changed out.

 

How many miles you got now? I'm pushing 280k

 

What issues did you end up having that ended up having to change the HG? I have no problems spending the cash to get the truck repaired to make sure she continues to run. If i can avoid it i will lol.

she's just hit 208K i believe. Ive been driving the GX470 everywhere now so it'll stay around there ( i drive it on the weekends to keep stuff working and moving)

280K is alot. Heading to the 300K club i see.

Have you gotten OBA yet? i've got a little windfall coming and i want to add it to the truck.

 

I had super rough idle that was getting worst and worst along with bad throttle response. After replacing the head gasket, it smoothed out and slightly improved my MPG's. It also turned off my check engine light long enough to let P0500 turn it back on LOL. A new cluster from Tanin Auto fixed that!

 

Yea working my way there, heading out to CO for my brothers wedding helped lol. Yea I've had OBA for a long time. Just recently upgraded the compressor, haven't really had a chance to use it though.

 

thats intresting. I havent had a super rough idle that's persisted longer than 5 seconds. It immediately smooths out, and when i drive it around it acts like nothing happened.

Im getting 10-11mpg but im lifted, loaded with armor and regeared to 4.56 so i dont think im in the thick of it just yet.

 

yeah ive been doing some intial research and i dont think i want to spend the 600 on ARB dual compressor lol. it wouldnt fit in under the hood anyway, 05 has that ABS ( i think that wat that is) box where most people slap it.
