We might just do that man, thanks again. There is prob. going to be a crowd of us, not sure if that matters to you. I guess we will wait & see what the weather is going to do that weekend. If you wait for the meet or not, def. let me know when you are ready to install your lift, I really want to be there to help you out since you have been so cool with me about this 4runner.

I did talk to some people over there about my the auto trans tho. They all seem to say the same thing, that they are plenty tough, but make the little 22re feel gutless. Plenty of folks there have 250K plus miles on there auto's with out a rebuild.

I guess I will just have to get the engine running good & drive it to see where the transmission stands.

Yotatech is an awesome site for all the information on the 1st gen. 4Runners. I had an 87 22re w/ man. trans that I fixed up and recently sold. Kinda wish I didn't. Anyways, that engine is a tough little engine almost bullet proof. I recommend listening to the engine for a "Rattle Noise" at start up or at least ask if the timing chain has ever been replaced. Chances are you'll have to replace the timing chain, sprocket, and guiderails. You can get all that stuff cheap at engnbldr.com. Good luck, it'll consume you!

 

Thanks Sean, I will check them out, I had their red powdercoated valve cover & weber carb. kit on my old 86 22r pick-up before I swapped in the V-6. I am excited about this project, I'm sure it is going to take a lot of time & money to get it to a point where I can really wheel it with confidence, but it is going to be fun.

Thanks for the advise, I'm sure that I will be replacing that timing chain, have you seen the double roller conversions? They are nice but pricey.

 

Are you sure that your boss isn't going to flip if he catches us up there carrying on? It sounds great to me, we have lots several trucks to install lifts on & the lifts / air tools would be a big advantage.

oh and look over on marlin crawler forum for lift options... there are a couple ways to do it without dropping serious change on the kit right away, although the kits are f'n sweet! I'm taking the RUF route with 63" chevy's out back.

Well, I went ahead & picked it up on Saturday, worked on it some sunday. I have a lot of work in front of me. I might start a build thread on it even thought it is not a tacoma. Thanks for everything Keith.
