Fellow AC owner here and my dog usually just rides in the back with the seat folded down. Plenty of space for just you and a dog.

Passengers will hate riding in the back, but like you I never have more than one other person in my car so a DC made no sense for me. When I have kids I will just get a full size crew cab or a SUV.

I'd rather have the long bed so I guess AC for me.

Access cab gets my vote. looks good whether stock or lifted. DC's look kinda funny unless they are lifted, but even then they look unproportiond and you cant put shit in the bed. :crapstorm:

Access cab LOOKS better IMO however I decided I would rather have the extra space inside the vehicle then a bed I would use maybe 10 times a year. Most of what I buy can fit in the back sets when they are down.

Function over form. I don't need that extra foot of bed. I don't have anything I need to out in the bead that wold make it too short. My bike is out of the question. Maybe a 450 standard,,,,I 've used the bed twice in two months. Easier to keep the back seats down and use that as everyday cargo transport with the occasion dirty cargo in the bed..

After driving the tundra access cab and trying to get things out of the back with the suicide doors, i would not have another access cab, DCSB (for me).

Suicide doors are a pain in a parking lot/garage with a car right next to you. drive it, park it in a lot and see. just my .02

AC is great for being single and running the dog around town, BUT If you plan to keep it until it dies that will be a long time and if a wife and kids show up on the scene in the next 10 yrs then you will want a DCSB

    neglect, mostly.
one question, what do you have now? the reason i ask is, the transition can be the hardest part. i had and SUV before my tacoma DC. always had everything i needed in it. when i went to get a tacoma i knew i had to have the space. . . and despite the fact that more people will want a ride i really love having the four door to be able to just swing a back door open, throw whatever i need in there. ride off.

I vote DCSB. I dont have a family, or a big dog. It is normally just me, or my g/f in the truck. I wanted the extra room, just because you never know. I haven't had any problems with parking, or maneuvering. The turning radius in the DCSB is awesome too. I have regretted not getting the DCLB, in the past, but, the extra space in the rear of the cab with the seats folded down has always contained the extra space needed for hauling camping gear, boxes, etc.

I have a wife, two boys and a dog. Six years ago I bought a Honda S-2000, a car that has no back seat. We also had a Subaru STI and a Legacy so we had two cars with 4 doors, but i caught shit from my wife for 6 years for buying such an impractical car. Plus I bought two motorcycles which didn't help ;)

So last week i bought a 4wd 6 cyl TRD offroad, access cab. I love it, and compared to the S-2000 and the motorcycles, it is very practical. And it holds both motorcycles, something a 5 foot bed would not do. And my wife, for what it is worth approves

So the access cab works fine for me. Since both boys are now 20 or older, the only time we will need to get all 4 of us and the dog into the truck will be when we go fishing in the Outer Banks, fishing on offroad sites in WV, or going to and from hunting camps, none of which will be over 25 or so miles.

So the access cab works fine for me. Ten or more years ago the double cab would have been the best choice.

    AC all the way!!!
I rock an AC everyday, I also normally carry one passenger but at times I have had 3, the guys in the back moan and complain about the space until i remind them that they could be 4x4ing in their car ;)

At some points space gets tight, but I would never trade it for a dblcb. the wife (when ever that is) can drive the kid hauler.

DC all the way. When I bought mine, I was divorced with one kid. DC is the way to go. Plenty of room that will be much appreciated. And you probably will own the truck 5+ years. You never know what you will need in that time frame.

I've read lots of threads on here over the years, of people getting the AC & regretting it.

Resale value is better on a DC also.

Access cab looks better IMO...but I would rather have more interior lockable space and a larger interior flat climate controlled storage I would use more often than a another foot of bed I would not use that much.

My personal favorite is the DCSB, but I considered the AC for a while when I was looking to buy. In the end, I picked the DCSB (didn't want the long wheelbase), because I haul people more than cargo.

But for you, it sounds like the AC will meet your needs of carting around cargo and the pup more than people. And if you do end up with the family, the kids can ride in the backseat while they're young - I grew up riding in the backseat of a '92 Toyota AC pickup with my brother (while the youngest sat up front in the middle with the shifter between his feet).
