I have been looking around because I want to install a mid travel kit on my 2008 tacoma DCLB 4x4. I don't want to go cheap so I was thinking King or Fox 2.5 coilovers up front and 2.0 in the back. I found this kit online which looks almost exactly like what I need but can I get some opinions on it? The kit is here:

    https://bilsteinlifts.com/shop/toyo...id=CLC9r-SzxdECFdWNfgodH8oLKg#reviews_summary

    So basically the setup is:
    -Fox 2.5 coilovers front
    -Total Chaos Uniball UCAs
    -Fox 2.0 rear shocks
-ToyTec AAL spring (for now, upgrade to Deaver later on)

Now I've heard that uniball UCAs are stronger but I have also heard of them going bad after a few years of even street use. It's my daily driver so my question - with heavy street use and moderate offroad use (at least 3 times a week) would uniballs or ball joints be better? If I'm spending $5,000 I don't want to have to get new UCAs after only a few years. Anyone here have good/bad experiences with Total Chaos uniball UCAs?

The kit looks 90% complete but I know I would need an aftermarket bumpstop. Any recommendations for a high quality hydraulic bumpstop?

Also, the shocks are remote reservoir but I do not see any kind of bracket for mounting the res. I have seen plenty of pictures of the res being piggybacked onto the shock using a simple plastic clip, but I like the ones where the res is attached to the frame with an aftermarket bracket better, looks like a better quality setup to have it out of the way. Does anyone know of a place to get a bracket like that or of any brands that come with them? I think I have seen King shocks that come with brackets for the res.

I'm willing to switch brands for the coilovers, UCAs, and Springs but I want high quality that will last long on and off road. It would be about a 50% street and 50% offroad use truck. Can some of you with experience chip in your 2 cents? Any recommendations on different gear or tips about the setup I chose? I know Fox is the best name but there are other brands that perform very comparably. My budget is around 5,000 for front/rear suspension. Any info is really appreciated, thanks guys!

With 5K I would go King. Wouldn't even consider Fox. Based on durability, service, and reputation.

I have had my Fox suspension on for over a year and have had no issues. As for the other info posted, it sounds like hear say. He doesn't have it on his so he doesn't know.

Did it come with the equipment to mount the reservoirs? What kind of bumpstops are you using? Thanks for the reply!

Yes, comes with everything. Great kit. I use my truck about like you. A little more road then off road. But when off road we have put it through a lot. Not one problem and not a single noise.

I have heard something about King customer service being much better, however I don't think King makes a kit like this and it would cost more to build it. Tough decision...

OP i am running fox 2.5 with camburg UCA in front and fox 2.0 in rear with allpro standard leafs and timbren bumps. I have about 20k on the front suspension and 15k on the rear. No issues and it rides great off road. Also for your uca's they have kits to replace worn bushings or the uniball itself.

IMG_1212.jpg IMG_1214.jpg I have icon/ total chaos stuff on mine and it's great thus far. Too good of a deal to pass up. I'd say king, fox and icon are all right in the same ballpark. UCA's are completely serviceable.

Check with Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road. That is very close to the setup I'm running (fox extended travel 2.5, LR UCAs, fox 2.0 rear, Dakar leaf pack, swaybar delete).

Make sure you get the extended travel coilovers and the rear shocks need to be proper length for the new springs...not sure how an AAL now then converting to deavers later will impact things when it comes to selecting the right shock length but I know the Dakar springs gave me a lot more droop. Marie was very knowledgeable and their prices are great (free shipping FTW).

I like how Icon's coils come already black and they don't seem to be run as often. Would be nice to have a more unique setup.

Also if you have any plans to add weight to the truck you may want to consider the heavier rate coils so you don't have to try to preload them as much. I think they're 700# vs 650#?

I have the 6112/5160 setup on my tacoma from Toytec. Paired it with dakar leafs out back. Found it matched up very nicely on my 2015 tacoma but would have to say the king or icon shocks might be smoother riding. With that being said... I am not 100% my kit counts even as Mid travel lol
