Frame rust wasn't a problem on pre-Tacos IIRC, looks like a sturdy rig you found. Looks a bit pricey though. I suggest doing some homework on edmunds.com, kbb.com and nada.com to get some ideas on pricing.

I've heard the 3.0L V6's were kind of a dog of an engine. not problematic, just underpowered(for a v6).

Looks pretty nice, very clean interior, especially for a truck that old!

    Stock for now
I had two V6 3.0s, a 90 & 95 all stock 5 spds. None of these engines or trans gave me a problem. Mine were SR5 models with the factory 31" tire pkg which came with different gearing than those that didn't. (if memory serves me right 4.56) The VIN will tell you for sure. The 95 is still on the road today (not owned by me but pic in my gallery). I sold it to a friend for $4200 in 2004 with 180k on it. Salt kills where I live. As said, the engine isn't gonna win any races but gives no headaches either imo. Great daily drivers if kept found in a no salt zone or not driven in winter, oh and maintained of course.

Just more of what these guys said. Those 3.0 liters carry on the Toyota tradition of being incredibly overbuilt for their duty. Not very powerful even for it's size, but if you can live with that, it's a great buy. Just be sure you're willing to pay the premium that comes with the 'Yota badge--these babies are nearly always above KBB value because everyone loves 'em...

    And I just can't understand it. :D

Thanks guys! We've had two older Tacos, but not with the V6, and they wouldn't get out of their own way off the line (up to speed was a different story! :) ) and I'd heard the 3.0 V6 wasn't much better, but speed isn't the issue since we were mainly looking for a project truck. If you knock off the probable cost of the body lift, the ProComps and the Mickey Thompson's its coming in around 5000, which is still pricey, but I hoping it was worth it! Hopefully we'll go see it tonight since I doubt it will last and I don't want to miss another good one!
