With tax return season here, I'm going to have a little bit of play money to mod my Taco. It's all stock aside from some 265/75 wildpeak.
I really would like mid travel but that's a good chunk of change to drop.

In your opinions, what should my primary mod be from a functionality standpoint?
I'm thinking maybe sliders and a soft topper?

If it was me, id put a mild lift on the front to level it (1.5-2 inches) so that you can keep stock ucas and then go with some sliders or a softopper like you mentioned. It really depends on what you plan on using the truck for though

That's really nothing we'll be able to help with. Everyone has different needs, so what works for one guy won't work for another.

Since I lean towards remaining stock-ish my $0.02 would be to keep your eyes peeled for MY18 TRD Off Road suspension take-offs. They do provide ~1" lift in the front and for about $100 you get a set of fresh shocks to swap on every 70k or so.

Put a plow on it, that’s very functional. Or you could do a 20” lift which would be functional if it floods.

What do you use your truck for? Hunting, general outdoors use, "I could do with a car, but like a truck" DD rig? That will govern the "best" answer for you.

Decent sliders and a topper wouldn't be a bad decision; Seem pretty functional for all around use. Then again, the heart wants what it wants.

Door #2. Not the idea you want to hear, but... truck paid off? saving for a house? How's the retirement fund looking?
(P.S. I work in finance, and am generally terrible at following my own advice for all the reasons you'd expect)

What is your intended use? Everything comes at a cost...bigger tires and lift means less mpg, increased wear on certain components etc. if you need it, you need it.

It's my DD. It get used for general outdoor "stuff" and I try to get on to forestry roads and milder trails when I can. I avoid anything too extreme.
I just like to have capability to do more if the need ever arose.

Won't be paid off for awhile, probably enlisting in the army in a few months so I don't need a house.

Intended use is DD, sometimes the road trip rig, and general outdoor/off-road.
I prefer to always have more capability than my needs solely to be prepared should a need ever arise. I always shoot to get the most capability out of any chosen upgrades, while balancing usefulness and capability, with practicality.

Although my end game is mid travel.

All valid points. I could even put some 50" paddle tires on to compliment the lift and paddle the truck through the flood zones. Maybe even rig up some type of outrigger tanks filled with compressed air to make it float.

I think a good IFS skid is the most important first mod for Offroad capability. It's tough to drive home with a wrecked oil pan.

For the price you can't beat the TRD Offroad kit that Rouge is offering.

Actually most functional mod you can do is regular maintenance.

To get a 285 size tire you're going to need about 2.5" lift, UCAs, etc. you can go 265/70 and be plenty capable and more friendly as a DD. You can lift if you want

Agreed sub_par. I plan on getting all the PM squared away and establishing a solid baseline since I haven't had the truck all that long.

So should armor or suspension be prioritized first? Say if I only choose one mod for the time being, would you go sliders, a skid, or the trd pro suspension.
