    Hello all,

New member here in need of help. New to Tacoma's and was hoping to get opinions on a deal I'm working on. I'm looking at a 2014 Tacoma with the following specs:
    TRD Off Road
    Clear California title
    No accidents reported
    double cab
    v6
    4wd
    5'ft bed
    manual transmission
    19.5k miles
Clean, pretty much new interior and engine bay

So the truck appears to be in pretty good shape but I did find some flaws. I threw in my obd scanner and found codes c1407 and c1408. Apparently these are ABS related. I've cleared these and put about 500 miles on the truck and they haven't returned. I also found a little bit of damage underneath the rear passenger side. The pinch weld is a bit crushed in that area, along with a damaged running board. It looks to be isolated to this small area with no other body or frame damage. Other than that, the trucks drives straight, no squeaks or rattles in the cabin, and the engine runs silky smooth.

Now the question, is $29k too much for this? I test drove the third gen manual in the same configuration and the 4.0 has the lower end torque that I like. I just don't know if this is paying too much for a five year old truck, though. Thank you all in advance!

    is that 29k OTD?

Either way.... bought my 2013 TRD OR 4x4 v6 Auto DCSB brand new for 30k before tax title and license.... 29k is WAY to much for that used truck thats 6 model years old.

General advice - always and only negotiate out-the-door price. Start there. Agreed that price seems high but it's also based on your location. While Living in seattle I flew to Salt Lake City to buy a car because it was priced-right.

It’s high so I’d try to talk them down. That’s super low miles on a hard to find truck.

It all depends on what the truck is worth to you. When the third gens came out for sale in Charleston, SC the used 2nd gens were selling for more money than a brand new 3rd gen. That’s super low miles for a 5 year old truck. Not exactly sure where you’re at, but here is what NADA says for Sacramento area. Looks like the price is about right for CA

They will probably get close to asking based on that. I know if mine got totaled today I’d be flying out there to take a look at this one.

    Same crap everyone else got
I paid 29k for my 2015 double can trd off road 4x4 auto. It was Toyota CPO with 25k miles. No rush and no accidents. First car I've ever owned not made in the 90's or 80's so it was with it to me to start with a clean solid base bc I drive my cars forever. Also tacomas with 180k were still selling for 20k. I doing want a 3rd gem so my goal was the find the newest 2nd gem with the lowest miles. It would have been less of it wasn't CPO. I'm happy and regret nothing. Tacomas in the southeast hold value pretty well bc they are usually just free.

Ah fair enough. And you don’t have ATRAC on the earlier 2nd gens right?

Wow, for $30k and less than 20k miles, that truck should be damn near flawless. I question why a truck that was driven that little in 5 years already have damage and CEL codes. OP, this is an easy one to pass on.

If you’re gonna spend $30K on a truck, you better be very financially stable, have a house at least 50% paid off, and be able to pay for the truck outright, or be qualified for financing under 5%. If you’re living with your parents, or renting a house or apartment, or are looking at 14% financing, that’s the dumbest financial decision you could make.

I'd say it seems slightly high, but not crazy, somebody will buy it for close to that.

It's a Tacoma TRD and will hold its resale value extremely well so there's that. If a buyer overpays at purchase and is patient when it's time to resell it'll hold the overpaid price as well. Because Tacoma.

I once financed a vehicle at 21%. Lol

When I went to Toyota for an oil change on my 2015 DCSB TRD off road (at 150k ish) they harassed me enough to test drive the 19’ Tacoma. If I took one off the lot my truck was worth $20k... I was blown away. Clearly they weren’t “giving” me $20k for my trade but still- they do hold their value unlike anything I’ve ever owned.

Also- I passed on the 19’ They only had sports available and I don’t know man... that new motor/trans combo really sucks.

Thanks for all the input. I'm trying to make as much of an informed, final decision as possible by this Saturday, and this is helpful. I purchased the truck at a dealer that doesn't do haggling. Its name starts with car and ends with max. I had been looking for a Tacoma with this configuration, and this was a newly acquired truck at the time. It didn't even have any photos on the site yet, but the listed mileage made me move on it, and I had them ship it to my local dealer.

I did find another flaw this morning, neither of the cigarette lighters seem to be working. I tried to use them for the first time today to charge my phone. There's no doubt in my mind that they'll take care of this if I bring it in. I'm going to see if it's simply a fuse later on today. If it's more, that's not good. So, I am factoring this issue into my decision as well.

Additional info... I think I may have qualified for decent interest rates, but I don't like paying the banks for borrowing money, so I opted out of financing and just paid it outright. I do have my own place, but it's not paid 50%. As a side note, I wouldn't mind living at my Grandma's place. Just like that movie Grandma's Boy. Lol.

Here's some pics of the flaws I mentioned just for reference.

And here's some pics of why it's a tough call for me to decide whether to bring it back.
