Hey I was just wondering for all of you who use Royal Purple. I just recently heard about it and have heard nothing from actual users. Is there anything special about it and how does it stack up against other synthetics.

I use it and love it. However, that's all I can say without starting a religious war over oil.

I am a believer that you get what you pay for. I also use Royal Purple and K&N oil filter, if I cant find K&N Wix makes an off road or extreme condition filter

I ran RP in my Probe GT for years...it actually saved the engine for sure on one specific incident. I'm not running it in my Taco yet but will once the factory warranty expires <----I'm not loony...there's logic to that :D

    Well....since you asked ;)

This is probably one of the few things that I ask my fiance about...thats right...my fiance lol. Reason being...shes been a service advisor at a large dealership here in SC for the past 5 1/2 years. I've always been the guy to get under the hood and work on my cars myself. I felt better about the work because I know I did it...and did it correctly. I told her about my urge to swap to RP in the Taco and she made a recommedation based on her experience.

She stated if something goes wrong with the engine (within the warranty period) and you personally (not professionally) changed your oil...the chances of your warranty holding up is extremly slim. She said if this were to happen...you would need to have a chart stating when the oil changes occured, what mileage the oil changes occured, and the reciepts for all the products you used for each change. Now remember...you would need all this information for each oil change you did while under your factory warranty if something were to go wrong with the engine. So if you changed you're oil from the get go...you'll probably need about 7 oil changes worth of documentation.

My thoughts on that...it wasn't worth the headache if something "were" to go wrong. Instead I'll choose to continue to go to the dealer for regular maintainance untill the factory warranty expires.

Some people choose to tinker with the engine while still under warranty (I did it with my RX-8) and nothing is wrong with that. I'll just have a better piece of mind knowing that if something "were" to happen that I'll be taken care of.

So call me loony for listening to my service advisor fiance...but I'll take the safe route this time round :D

Although I use Amsoil, I have never heard any negativity towards RP.

well if I am not mistaken the law now requires that the dealership be able to prove something 100% in order to deny warranty work. And someone who changes their oil at appropriate intervals; the dealership would have a hard time proving that lack of maintenance was the culprit. But thanks for the heads up and again I may be wrong on that

Well...lack of maintainance wouldn't be the only issue if something went wrong. Since this thread was about RP synthetic...the issue would be type of oil used.

Think about it...by using a different type of oil (synthetic to be specific) than what is recommended in your trucks user manual...you have already given the dealership the 100% they would be looking for.

To each their own...but like I said earlier...I'm taking it safe this time round

I've never used RP, but I would like to know if it is worth the extra cost over Mobil 1? Any feedback would be appreciated.
