Right or wrong, interweb parroting or not, the complaints towards newer Optima production can not be ignored. Back in the day they were great.

This "Orange Top", the early version of the reversed terminal red top, lasted me 13 years with occasional winch duty. Granted it's likely a fluke but many back then would go 8-10.

Oddessey. Had a red optima for about a year when the truck failed to start from a broken negative terminal. Got my money back added another $80 and picked up an oddessey.

With all the talk I went with an Odyssey/Diehard to replace the Optima. Of course shortly after, Sears changed suppliers to some lesser brand.
Coincidentally when the Optima started to struggle Sears ran an online sale with a miss print price for one day. The online transaction would not complete so I printed the ad and the local store honored it, $180 no exchange.

I've got (2) 1100 amp Optima Batteries in my 72 Camaro , I wouldn't use anything else . in my 02 DC Tacoma I've got a new battery but when it comes time to replace it there will be a Optima Red top in its place

OEM batteries are great, but weight a metric ton.

Check with the third gen sections. Youve stumbled into an old first gen thread. I have a red top though and it works well

Just saw a discussion on batteries and I'm almost due. Didn't notice it was thread specific. Thanks :hattip:

Just saying you may want to be vehicle specific for your battery purchase :fistbump:

Makes perfect sense with the big change in electronics over the years.

Only a 4 year old thread too. Need to let these age longer before we bump them, then they'll be more like time capsules of ill-informed opinions.

I for one have a Walmart battery in my Tacoma, Odyssey batteries in my F350, and a Duralast in my crawler

    Ask me for an opinion

Are those better or worse than the interstate in my frontier or the 5 year old canadian tire battery in my taco?

I like my yellow to opposed to the red top. But my truck sits for stretches. And I found that the red top didn't hold a charge for extended periods. The yellow top has been good to me.

Full disclosure, I've never had an Optima battery, but I just buy Walmart batteries now. They're the same shit as the auto parts stores with a different sticker. Batteries don't last long enough to "invest" in a special one (mine last like 3 years max)...unless maybe that special one is Lithium instead of acid core. Unless a battery has like a 5 or 10 year warranty, I wouldn't even consider spending more than $200 on it. I'd rather have 2x $100 batteries to be honest.
