Not to burst anyone's bubble but johnson controls here in yuma arizona supplies 30% of the optimas to the us.... I know. I worked there for years. There is a plant right across the border but they aren't making amg optimas. These aren't chinese and you are still supporting small town good jobs.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
Here's the actual story. Optima was widely regarded as the best AGM on the market. While they were, essentially, the only AGM battery on the market.

Then the newest, latest, greatest AGMs started hitting the market, and about that same time, Optima moved most of their manufacturing to Mexico.

A bunch of prissy bitches that have to have the newest, brightest, shiniest, (often overpriced) thing-ga-dera started talking shit on Optima and saying how their new shit is better, and Optima is junk because it's made in Mexico... and everyone just Parrots the rumor now, often times people who have never even owned an Optima... the funniest part about that irony in Toyota circles is often the same people who talk shit on Mexican Optimas... drive Mexican Tacomas.

And the end of the day... I've been running Optimas is nearly every car and/or truck I have owned since the mid 90s. Offroad vehicles with winches and lights, street vehicles with big stereos... Optima has always been the same in my experience (before and after the move to Mexico).

I am currently running 2 yellow tops in my truck. My wife and my son are both running a red top in their trucks... ZERO issues.

That's why I moved. But yeah you still support americans buying em. Also, we made MANY batteries. In actuality johnson controls makes many "competitors"

Ok … Optima battery…a story I once read many years ago ( I have no proof) When Optima batteries came out, the off roaders fell in love with this battery . It could be mounted anywhere and even upside down. Off roaders need a battery that could handle the bouncing and twisting off roads. Optima met the criteria for the off roaders.

Optima became the “hottest” selling batteries, off road magazines wrote and praise this battery.

What happen to its reputation? ( again this is a story i read and I have NO proof), coming from my memory of this story I read. A long time ago.

The owner was selling a lot of batteries, he want more money and profits. The engineer who design the battery, got into a argument with the owner who wanted to cut cost, reduce the quality.
The engineer spit, owner got his wish.
Months later , ( a picture was printed w/ the article) of pallets of return Optima batteries. “Pallets and pallets.
Optima batteries reputation , went down hill.

Today I believe it is a different company . But it’s past history is still hanging around? Left a bitter taste for many. I too was going to buy a Optima battery at that time. Read that article of owner and designer of the battery. Today I will only buy Interstate batteries.

Again I repeat, just a story from my memory. Date un-known- just many years ago.

My first Optima red top lasted 12 years, the second one only 6 years. I think they were better when made in the USA or whatever. I got an Odyssey AGM deep cycle, Autozone sells them. Costs about $50 more than a generic AGM from Autozone.

My OEM battery holdown did not work had to modify it even though it was same group (top is smaller than body).

I think a deep cycle (yellow top or other) has plenty of cranking amps so its the way to go, will likely survive more accidental discharges.

Battery manufacturers. How interesting they can design and build batteries to last for a 1 year, 2 year, 3 year and up.
Optima batteries comes in three colors for it’s different ratings/output. Optima battery only a 3 year warranty. Approx cost of $239 to $299 .

Best to search around for a longer lasting battery , ones with a great reputations. (AGM)
Odyssey, Interstate, AC. Delco, Duracell, Bosch, etc

I have used Optima yellow top deep cycle batteries on my '97 Taco mostly because of the 8K winch up front. But the last 3 Optima batteries have been a bit of hit or miss. 2 Optimas did very well and are still in use after 6 and 9 years. But one failed after just 3 years which surprised me. So I decided to try the $150 Everstart Platinum AGM type 24F battery from Walmart just this past December. The new battery was subjected to 3 longs days of winching to clean up after a tornado in April and did very well. So far, I have to give the Walmart Everstart Platinum AGM battery a big thumbs up. .02

Optimas from 2013 and 2016 are still serviceable:

Please check the Optima battery warranty. Warranty for only 3 years ? If you got 6 & 9 years out of your Optima battery, that is a “wow”. Lucky for you.

Optima unique spiral design does make the battery look special.
Optima makes its own batteries in Monterrey, Mexico. Right next door to the famous LEGO manufacturer plant.

Optima is a part of the Clarios group (energy company), also makes EV and Hybrid batteries else where. Optima corp headquartered is in Glendale, Wisconsin.

Clarios may go public and sell stocks, but is on hold for now ($17-$22)
If you want to be a stock holder for Optima battery, watch for the stock sign ( Btry).

Optima only manufactured optima batteries. They believe they make the best?
Why produce only a 3 year warranty battery?
Why not a 6 year battery?

Costco 3 year warranty battery $100 every 3 years ,9 years $300 vs Optima $300 battery w/3 year warranty.

I know different applications, but for the average guy. Is Optima necessary?
