Hi, I saw the stereo upgrade thread on here with links to tweeters and door speakers and I ordered them all= four doors and tweeters for the dash. The new front door speakers are 3 way, and the stock ones are just one way 6x9, no internal tweeters, etc. My question is- how will this affect the sound? Would it be optimal to swap the stock ones with new "one ways"? or will the 3 ways enhance the sound even more? Any audiophiles care to reply?
    Thanks, Dan.

As always the answer is “that depends”. You already ordered new speakers. Are you replacing the head unit? The stock head unit has limited power (watts).

Thanks for the quick replies- I am keeping the stock head unit for now and I have Kicker speakers front and rear.

Personally I wouldn’t run 2 sets of tweeters on the same line (which is what your about to do). But in the audio thread about this upgrade there are plenty who have done just that and say it sounds great. So since you have bought the speakers, install them and see if you like the sound. It’s all just personal preference after all.

Mutely- that's exactly what I started to wonder about after I ordered them. I can still return them. Do you think I should just get a "one way" 6x9 instead? Or maybe a two way?

Upgrading the stock speakers is a big improvement. The 3ways are fine. You won't regret it.

OK Bill, I'll try them. I have the tweeters installed and those alone are a huge improvement. I appreciate all the replies guys. Thanks!

It will definitely sound much better no matter what you do. I personally like the sound stage up higher which is what the dash tweeters do. With tweeters in the doors too it will lower the stage a bit. Many people don't notice it but I do. I actually wish the door speakers were up higher..:notsure:

I would get a single speaker for the front door if you are still using and upgrading the dash tweeter, that will give you a way better sound. You could also just disconnect the tweeter from the 3 way as that door tweeter is really not adding anything, just taking away (or going to muddy the crispness) due to the location, that’s as long as the dash tweeter is up to the task. I’m not a great fan of 3 way speakers in in such a small package as 6x9 anyway, as I don’t believe they add anything, just marketing. So a single kicker speaker in the door and an upgraded tweeter on the dash is what I would personally do.

As others have said, it will be an improvement either way, but if you are prepared to send them back, then a single in the door I *personally believe* will give you a better sound over a 3 way if you are keeping the dash tweeter location.

Would a two way be a good compromise?

2 way would be ok as long as its lows and mids.

All the to ways they have are woofer/tweeter combo. So, better to use the 3 ways I have or get just woofers?

Many people like the 3 ways. You already ordered so try them and see what you think. The tweeter will be really small and you can try covering with tape to see the difference.

If you do decide to go woofer only in the door it just needs to overlap the frequency response the tweeter is capable of.
