Thanks for your input. To clarify what I said, some areas are down to the bare metal. My concern is to avoid it rusting, especially since I drive around salted roads in the winter. This is also a situation where it's not my fault - I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate people freely hitting your car.

I have a general idea on what to do based on the feedback from this thread. I'll call the owner and see what they're willing to offer.

I would use some rustoleum rattle can. I didn't like the smooth finish of my ARB so I dusted it to give it some texture. Did my sliders the same way. I scratch my shit all the time and I rarely go offroad...lol You could still make a claim and get some $$$ for more shit...

True. I'd certainly be bummed too. But I'm not sure I'd be willing to go through all the hassle (even if the other party IS paying for it) to get it fixed "properly". Really what it would take is stripping the entire bumper down and re coating it. So you're going to be out at least a bumper, if not the entire truck while that work gets done - so probably at least a few days or a week even.

Kudos for the person who hit the OP to leave a note. I'd call them up, and say thanks for being honest, but to not worry about it. It's just a bumper. You know they made out worse than the OP did anyway.

Hit my doors, or body panels or do actual damage (bent bumper) and that's a different story, but I'm just not going to worry about scratches on a bumper.

I got rear ended by a kid driving daddy's BMW a few years back. Messed him up real good with my bumper and hitch. The only reason I made an insurance claim is he went far enough under me that I wasn't sure if he hit the axle/suspension, and I was literally on my way home from getting it aligned, so I made a claim, his insurance paid the deductible. Turns out the alignment was still perfect, and they gave me like $600 for the "scratched" bumper. I lol'd as I cashed the check. I can't remember what I got with the money, but it wasn't a bumper. I don't think I would have bothered if it weren't for the alignment thing, though...

    Uh, a tool box
Do a lite sanding on it and spray with a rattle can, just make sure to tape up the area on the body real nice.

Make sure you file a claim against the other person's insurance though, they did hit your truck, IMO they should pay for being careless. Find a good body shop, usually one affliated with a large dealership does good and expensive work. Tell them to write the claim the most expensive way possible, might be more expensive to get it re-powder coated, or might be more expensive to just have the whole bumper replaced. Either way pocket the money and repair it yourself. I don't see it being shady at all, time is money, and this person is doing nothing but wasting your time by hitting your truck.

Had a similar thing happen to me about 10 years ago. Pulling out of a parking lot, a guy on a big Harley Davidson cruiser just barely managed to brush the rear bumper on my Camaro with that painted chrome front fender thingy. Put about a 3" scratch way low on the bumper, couldn't see it unless you squatted down and looked at it. Got a $600 check from his insurance company. Drove on down to Ft Walton Beach FL in early October, beach front condo, sat on the beach for 4 days, ate and drank like kings, costed us about $300-400 out of pocket, best vacation I ever had lol

eh tbh this kind of thinking rubs me the wrong way. Once upon a time I scratched a Civic bumper. Was about 1" long on a 2000~ with obvious existing damage. The lady initially came after me for new fenders, bumper, hood, and paint because she had a shop quote her that much. I talked to my and her insurance and they both agreed to have an adjuster look at both vehicles... I think the insurance wrote her a check for $100 in the end lmao

tl;dr: insurance might throw money at you to fix it or laugh at you. As always "don't be an asshole" applies

    After looking again

I think the best option is to scrap that bumper and buy a New one !!

That will give you piece of mind so you can sleep at night

Are you sure there is not more hidden damage from the impact ??

Funny how my Coworkers manage to hit my truck all the time the tail lights are getting expensive

At first I thought of repainting and fixing all the jacked up body work previous owner had done. Then I realized, if I'm going to be putting on aftermarket bumpers, wenches, LED pods front and back, rock protecting rails and plan on going offroad camping there's bound to be some damage. The cost to repaint would probably add up and there is NEVER a way to dodge the roads mistakes. So I plan to leave any that occur on the bumpers and rails and the truck and as others have state, "badge of honor/conquer".

Unfortunately this one was done by another vehicle.
