No problem! Got the idea from FWD cars. If the flat is in the front, you want to pull a tire from the rear for the front, then put the donut on the rear. Better braking and same size tire on the differential. Anyways, glad I could help.

I don't understand why it would cost you $700 for a spare. I recently bought a brand new steel 18" rim from Amazon for $100 with free shipping from Canada (I live in the USA), then bought a used tire locally for $40. Bam! I created a spare tire.

Problem is, AAA won't go off-road or much past a mile on a good dirt road, and our local badlands recovery truck charges $500 extra just for turning off the pavement. I guess one could buy 4 runflats ($$$), and forget a spare...

A spare runflat would cost a lot more than that

I have something similar to this that I bought from my local off-road shop (for a lot more. Amazon ftw):

For some reason 18" beater steelies dont exist in a 6x5.5 bolt pattern (believe me I looked). So I would just end up getting the same rim I have now which is aluminum and around $230 CAD. Add a full size 33" tire onto that which adds another $350, then add in 13% tax and the damn recycling fees and balancing charges and youve got around $680 CAD total.

Or know someone who has AAA. As long as they're present they can use their benefits to help you.

I would never even consider going offroad without a spare. Like I mentioned in the original post this is only temporary and my driving in the next few months is going to be entirely city. EatSleepTacos brought up a good point though with just keeping my old 17" spare on the truck and if I get a flat in the front, I can move a fresh 18" wheel from the back to the front, and use the 17" spare in the back where it wont contact any suspension components.

OK, can you find a 18x6x5.5 in a junkyard? A used 33" tire in Canada costs $350???

Nope. Nowhere. I actually dont know where you can get a generic steel 18x6x5.5 at all. I checked Ebay and overseas shopping sites and no one had them available either. I may be able to get a silverado rim or something that shares the same bolt pattern but i believe the rim has to have 4.6 BS minimum for it to work on my suspension, and none of the chevy/dodge OEM rims go below like 5BS.

Oh yeah.. absolutely insane. I have no idea how they can get away with charging that much for tires. When I was getting quotes I found some weird obscure chinese branded tire that was around $220 each but the reviews on this specific tire were sketchy. Some of the more expensive tires I got quotes for like General Grabbers were upwards of 400-500 each. Keep in mind this is for a 33" tire, not a 40" or anything crazy. We get killed with prices for shit like that here. You guys in the states have way more options + competition so you get tires especially a lot cheaper

18x6x5.5 is a super uncommon bolt pattern. Its hard enough to find the rims new let alone used, every now and again some Nissan Titan rims pop up which have that pattern but theyre usually really expensive

Google search for custom made steel wheels. There are companies that will make you any wheel size with any bolt circle and backspacing. They have bare rims and lots of different centers and they just weld them together however you want.

Nice find!! One of the rare occurrences where a 18x6x5.5 exists. Not a bad deal for it either!

In most cases the custom steelies are gonna be more expensive then just buying the same rim I currently have. (230 CAD to match the rim I currently have vs 250CAD for a custom steelie)

Plug kit, big can of fix a flat, a good flashlight and a decent hand pump if you don't have a good portable compressor. Yes, it sucks airing up a tire with a hand pump but you'll have plenty of time....

What kit are you running? What are the specs of your 16" wheel?
