A lesson I learned many years ago after the 10,000 Auto Parts sold me the wrong shoes. By the time I got back, I had forgotten everything and was lucky enough to have a mechanic that lived nearby.

Unless you get into your drum brakes often it can be a Royal pain .

Don`t be so hard on yourself . I can understand The old mans mindset How hard can it be.

The fact Toyota uses the parking brake to keep the shoes adjusted makes this a complicated mess compared to domestic brakes years ago.

Add air brakes into the equation they are so very simple compared to these Trucks.

You will get it figured out I install the springs with the adjuster completely turned shut it makes it much easier.

No, haven’t even taken them back apart.
The brakes stop fine. There is another thread on here with a guy that had the same issue. Apparently his e-brake slowly started to come back after a few hundred miles.

Honestly, since the brakes are working just fine. I’m not too worried about it.
It’s definitely not because the drums aren’t adjusted.
They were more than just a “slight” drag.
I had to put the wheel back on just to get enough leverage to turn the drum.

This is why nothing is better than factory parts and set up,I never have any problems ,or course only factory parts in my truck.

That is how I do it too.
    Adjusters all the way in.
I was not prepared to do the job.
Didn’t have a brake spoon. Thankfully I carry a set of side cutters in the tool box.

In hindsight, I wished I just did them myself. I am the type the likes to have a plan going into things. I’d never make it as a tech, I’m slow. I’ve been known to stop in the middle of a job, clean up, and start over. I can not do clutter and tools scattered everywhere.

haha same here. Im way too picky about stuff being clean before it goes back on. Living in the salt belt Ill wire wheel most bolts and re-anti seize before they go back on.

Should have seen how long it took me to do front hubs and new seals by the time I cleaned all the mating surfaces :anonymous:

We do tend to have our own style!!

we would not be a good mix many times I left my projects sit ran off to work out of town for a few weeks .

    Everything just as I left.

After some time I bought a nice bolt bin filled it with JIS hardware and special Toyota hardware started using all new hardware . I bought never seize in different flavors .

You and my brother would make a team.
Grease on the tools, Metric with SAE. Old parts still in the same place he took them off.
