if I switch to the 16"rims 265/70/16 tire combo on off road model rims. From the tires on my sport which currently has 17" rims 265/65/17 tires.
Do I also need to switch the spare tire? It is a 17" rim with a 265/65/17 tire.

If I need to switch it, will the smaller 16" spare fit ok underneath?

    Thanks

Switching the spare is not required as the overall tire diameter is still the same regardless of the wheel size. Even when uping tire size, small differences can be handled by the differential for short amounts of time to get you to a tire shop. Remember many modern cars come with smaller doughnut spare tires.

Dealership says I don't need to change the spare but Toyota Canada says I need to change the spare rim size & tire to match the new size...?

As long as the tire diameter is roughly the same, the wheel size is no issue.

    I don't even carry a spare.
