Orange County CAF's: up to no good

Not sure if any of you have experienced this problem. I was cruisin down the 805 going 75 and hit a random ditch in the lane, it popped my gear out of drive into low and I immediately lost most power and got stuck in middle of the freeway, almost got slammed into a few times and managed to make it over the shoulder when it cleared.
Y'all ever have that happen? Scary as hell and now I'm nervous about accidentally hitting any other bump/ditch in case it freakin shifts out of gear again

 

When I stepped outside for an hour

 

There this part under the shift lever that wears out in the auto. Manuals have the same issue. It's a bushing that dies out over time

 

Hmm I wonder how much replacing that will run me

 

I think it is a 30 minute job in the driveway. I find the bushings for the manual all the time. I forgot what they are like for the automatic. Very common to pop out of gear with off road and a first gen.

Ever been to Radsburg Ghost Town? Watching "destination Polaris" at work and theyre off roading and camping in that area. It's blm land and en route mammoth. Looks like a lot of fun.

I have had good luck with Rapalas up there, but only very early in the morning and right before dark.

Not sure but I'm guessing broke your axle, if not transmission.

I feel like what he said about the bushing is probably right, I've had mine pop into a different gear a couple of times.... although the whole vehicle never stopped, just went into 2nd
