Hey all... This last week my battery has been slow to crank over the starter motor, and i was planning on getting a battery test done tomorrow at my work, BUT this weekend while going up to the mountains my oem 2012 battery decided to open up and leak acid all over out the caps. smelled wonderful.. :puke: I make it to the local auto store in town and had to buy a new battery. But now im wondering why did it happen?

would a battery from 2012 just be "old"?
could a voltage regulator be bad? (same problem will happen to my new battery?!?!)
anything else i should be looking at?

hopefully it was a fluke and im good to go.

A 5 year old battery can definitely be considered to be well beyond its best days.

Yeah it's about that time to change it. Just change mine recently. They don't make battery like they use to anymore.

3 years is not uncommon for the lifespan of a battery. 5 years: consider yourself lucky.

My 4 year old OEM battery went out in one day. You're lucky yours lasted for 5 years. Also the battery cap open probably due to the attitude you're going up to. I've went up to 6000 ft up but then again I make sure the fluids in my truck isn't overfilled. Overfilled fluids will burst the higher you go in elevation unless you relieve the pressure prior. There's a mark inside the battery cap you should only go to.

@Nicklovin Nick and I got left behind during a night run because they were just going WAAAY TOO FAST for us to keep up in AB and @MADSTEEZE @sdsurfer @stvstoy and a few others came to our rescue!!!
    :fistbump:

FU** the di**head that was in front of me, that's all I can say... just NO EXCUSE for what happened that night!!! But our OC peeps came to our aide!!!:fistbump:

Let me just put it this way, if something DID happen, we were definitely gone long enough for that "something" to turn into a possible tragedy!!! That's how long we were left alone out there!!! Anyways...
