    SWEET!!! I don't know if you have a license or not, but I can show you how to connect to a repeater if you do. Also, if you come this Thursday, I can show you a couple things that may or may not be useful... it all depends on how the person wants to operate the radio I guess? But, anyways, I can show you a few things.

    My advice, get an aftermarket antenna to help with "range". Meaning, the efficiency of those stock duckies just SUCK A$$ for sure and you will thank me later, I'm sure!!! They're just NOT very efficient with the TX/RX although you would think that would be the case. A very common aftermarket antenna is the Nagoya NA-701/717/771, but the 771 is pretty long and can be a hassle within the cab of you rig due to length. Btw, stock duckies suck on most, if not, all of other handheld name brands such as Yaesu, Kenwood, etc. That I know of, that is why most HAM's have a tendency to change them out... like I did. I know my previous boss and the sr. engineer did that for that very same reason.

    Finally, if you can, get the MIC for that thing as well and you can sort of make a "mobile" out of it. Hence, you no longer have to carry the handheld unit itself and instead, just the MIC. VERY USEFUL for sure.

    The pics below is how "I" typically use my Baofeng on the trails. Plus, as much as possible, if you don't have an external antenna, try to get your handheld's antenna as close to the window as possible to reduce your cab's interference when TX'ing... I don't know if you know this or not, but your cab will act as a "shield" and reduce your range quite a bit!!! I mean, you SHOULD, most definitely be able to contact anyone 100yds in front/back of you, but definitely your range is still suffering as the person is further out... even on the HIGH wattage setting!!! Just to let you know if you don't already know???!!!
    Baofeng_pic2.jpg
    Just a close-up shot.
    Baofeng_pic1.jpg

    The "pig tail" you see connected to the antenna port is to act as a strain relief when connecting to a larger type cable. You NEVER want to connect a larger type cable to a smaller connector as you can easily SNAP off the smaller connector!!! I'm just showing the overall MIC setup here.

    Awesome man!!! :thumbsup::fistbump::cheers:

    I do not. I definitely recommend the class as that is the route I took. The TEST is NOT that hard, but taking the class made studying soooooo much easier, at least for me. My instructor made certain things much easier to remember as well and I would go home every night starting from CH1 to whatever chapter we ended on and typically repeat the process a few more times and using his examples on how to remember certain things. The ohm's law and crap was cake, it was the rules crap that got me or certain other things, but the electronics part, I was already comfortable with.

    You no longer need to learn CW (morse code), but I'm still teaching myself. The problem with that is the fact that all of those di-dahs are useless if the receive end has no F'N CLUE on what they just heard, LMAO!!!

    Btw, regarding the class, if you had questions, there was someone that could answer them for you right away!!! For me, it just made it easier and I wanted to know the stuff and not just pass the TEST, but that is just how "I" am as a person.

    And, I have to seriously VENT HERE, LOL, but your manual is TITS!!! When I bought my Baofeng, it was like me wanting to just take the radio outside and put a nice hefty round through it to put it out of "MY" misery, LOL!!! :infantry:

    That was one of the things/complaints, that I know of, when buying these radios was that the manual just LACKED!!! I have been hearing that they've gotten better for sure and looking at yours proves that, LMAO!!! :woot::rofl::rofl::rofl:

    I am the same. I tend to remember things better after taking a class as opposed to just reading.

    I got my license last year. I used HamTestOnline to study and I highly recommend it. It lets you do as many practice tests online as you want. I think I only missed one question on the exam. The link to their site is http://www.hamradiolicenseexam.com/index.html

    :wave: Dirk.

    Also, @bigbarlo make sure it is the correct question pool year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was also doing an on-line test and recommend it as well, but when I was studying/practicing one night a question popped up and it looked familiar, but the answers didn't seem to make too much sense???!!! It ended up being for sure that it was for the class license I was going for, but the question pool happened to be "older"!!!

    Anyways, just make sure to not make the same mistake I did while studying. I caught it fairly quickly, but, in essence, I was still studying an older question pool, which WILL mess you up if you're not paying attention!!!
