There’s not an extended travel shock for the factory location? I’m sure there is something out there that can be done with that but the ride stiffness will still be a concern.

Good points. IMO I think airbags would be the best for his application. J has the compressor on board already. But what do I know.

I am surprised airbags are not more common on overland type trucks, or with anybody who has an RTT. They are very usefull on full size trucks when regularly towing 5th wheels, and would be a great compromise on a lot of Tacomas.

I have used them in the past on my work trucks. I think people just don’t know about them. Why be stuck with a stiff ass ride 98% of the time.

Or they still have the stigma of the lowered airbagged mini truckin' days of the early-mid 2k's and people underestimate their practical use.

True. They have been around for decades though. I have only had one issue with them. I popped one a few years back. It was old and I had two pallets of Saltillo tiles in my f250. Dont think that would happen to a Tacoma though. The frame would bend with that kind of load.

I think they would be more for on-road comfort to be able to use a not-so-stiff leaf setup while carrying all that crap in the bed on a regular basis. No need to have them under pressure while trying to flex out suspension off-road.

Have yet to pop one and things are much more stable when towing the toy hauler or flatbed on the dually and 2500.

True.I know of a few TW members who have the Firestone ones and get concerned while offroading because the overall intentions are for the road carrying. The air doesn’t hold up as well from what i’ve been told while offroading.

It would be worth the risk. And I have a feeling most who would benefit from airbags would not be wheeling as hard as you do as often as you to actually cause damage.

Besides, a busted airbag would not be critical to making it home, just a little uncomfortable.

Made a goof up today. Listed a car part for 30 instead of 300. No wonder why the guy was so anxious to get it.

That’s why we need to figure out an extended length shock to compensate for the extra length of travel.

Airbag are good for towing and heavy load. they use expo leaf packs, able to take load and doesn’t limit your articulation movement. Gives you more flex at the mall, parking lot curbs and fire roads.
