    Back in the day there were several courses with start/Finishes in either Lucerne Valley or Barstow that had courses of 75+ miles. Going even farther back, way way back. There used to be a big race from Barstow to Vegas

    Yeah, my bad!!! :rofl::rofl::rofl::D:p

    I just happen to click on the build thumb thing picture... whatever the F*** it's called... and was reading the mods and what not and didn't see any radio or anything.

    Try to get a dual band as much as possible as you have that "extra frequency band option". Magmount antennas are okay, I guess (I personally don't care for them other than using one for emergency purposes only), but try to go more for a "hard-mount antenna". And, by FAR, your radio could have 100's of watts of power out, but with a shi**y antenna setup, you ain't reaching out to NO ONE!!! Any radio dude will tell you that the antenna system is KEY!!!

    Anyways... can't wait to hear what setup you finally decide on!!! :thumbsup::fistbump:

    They really are a nice radio for the price and functionality. They're not waterproofed like a Yaesu (NOTE: even though it's only a couple/few feet depth), but for the price of those Baofeng radios, again, not bad.

    EDIT:
    btw, talking about the VX series HT's.
