After my last employer I have made it a policy to never accept a counter offer in regards to salary.
If they offer it (especially if you have been asking for one for awhile) it means that 1) they know your worth more, 2) the line about not having the budget/funds was fucking bullshit to begin with, and 3) they don't value you as part of the team.

As for women flocking to the guys with rings ... never happens to me .. then again my wife and I don't wear our rings anyway

HAHAHAHA, I just upgraded some weapons that took 6x DAYS!!! So I know how you feel!!! My kinetic weapons are just strong enough to keep me just below Gold Lvl2 and at the very high end of Gold Lvl3. I keep bouncing back and forth between those levels!!! LOL!!!

That's true (which is why I added the comment about "good" employers) but there are also times when the direct manager can be the one holding you back and it's takes something bigger to get around that for the raise and/or promotion.

My current job my direct manager is the CEO/Owner of the company. Coming up on 1Y anniversary and he said we will discuss pay in December. I was pretty happy with the bonus I got last year for only working @ the company since September.
