    So how do you like the garmin as a gps off road? I have a garmin in my truck that I use quite often to go to the trails & back home but I've never really thought of using it off road

    Exactly what I'm saying. Having it mounted to an area you can easily see. I also have mine synced to Bluetooth so I get audio directions such as "stay left at the fork" and "2 miles till campsite yadda yadda." Its taken all the guessing out of navigation. Running my iPad with Cali maps land boundaries and my phone with topo has been really beneficial. I know if I'm on blm land, forestry land, preservation land, national parks land etc. The topo I like because tells me the type of terrain I'm on be it sand, mountains, rocks, etc. All this technology these days its made off roaring much more enjoyable.
