The other day I was cleaning up some left over bug guts on the front end of my truck and can across 2 spots on my grill and 1 spot on my bumper that could not come clean. I at first assumed they where bug splatter but when taking a closer look it is not on top of the paint but IN the paint.

Has this ever happened to anyone where there are some major discoloration of your paint in a confined spot? Is this something that could be warrantied by Toyota?

I have the same crap on my fender flares! I couldn't figure it out for the life of me. The spots on mine aren't as large but they look like little rust spots but, as it was already stated, it's a plastic piece. I just thought it was overspray from road paint or something stupid like that but it pisses me off. You can't really tell on mine unless you're really up close. I think Toyota needs to learn how to paint again... this is just one of many paint problems I've had with my truck so far.

I had orange spots on the panel that covers the passenger airbag when I purchased my truck. The dealer tried to remove them with some sort of solvent that ended up taking the spots and the paint down to the plastic they had to replace the entire piece after their screw-up.

Do you know for a fact they were not there when you got the truck? Just wondering if there is something dripping at the factory? Looks like a paint splatter to me.

Is the paint chipped? A rock could have hit you and scratched off the paint and scuffed the plastic; I wonder if it is an undercoat on the plastic (like a primer)? These are just guesses, can you get a close up with a mcaro setting on your camera?

YOU WILL BE MISSED Satoshi Grill, FX-R retros, husky liners, bed bolt d-rings, TRD short throw shifter, 2.5 Fox Coil overs, AP UCA's, AP Expo rear leaf with Fox 2.0 shocks, Extended SS brake lines, AP kick-out sliders, 265/75/16 on Konig Countersteers, AllPro Apex front bumper and Zip Ties.
Those are rust spots more than likely.

I learned this the hard way with all the white vehicles I have owned. Usually it is more prevalent when you are located near railroad tracks. It is known as "rail dust" and essentially it is tiny particles of metal that oxidize when they land on the surface. Only really noticable on White vehicles. A clay bar will remove them, its just a PIA to do so.

I have a couple of spots on the front of mine that started that color and they were bug splatter. I've tried several items to remove and I'm down to the clay bar. I do have mine to a soft yellow color now. It took me a while to determine mine were in fact on the surface of the paint.

I had the same krud on my truck a while back. I have no clue where it came form either, just washing my truck one day and noticed it.

I got a Mothers Clay Bar from NAPA and removed all of it.

It is a PIA to do though.

    Hope this helps.

To me it looks like fresh yellow road paint. Have you driven down any new roads lately.

I believe those are bug stains. I've got the same issue. Some get lighter over time. I've dried dryer sheets, McGuire's clay bar and 3M Perfect-It III Rubbing Compound. I haven't tried the "magic erasers." Vinegar and water was also recommended but I haven't had a chance to try it.

i also have had a lot of white vehicles, and was told like stated above this is rail dust or brake dust that accumulates on the roads. Its on all paint just stands out on white cars

My truck was highway driven, the bugs were so bad and in bedded I could not clean it anymore. I had to re-paint the front end.
