First I know that this is not normal times so I can expect delays in delivery. That said I put my deposit down for a TRD Offroad with the Premium package first week in March. Took a few weeks to get feedback and then sales told me that I might see it by the second week in April. I didn't have any hope of that. April rolls around and now they are telling me middle of June.

Then the virus hits. sigh. Last info I got yesterday was end or August to beginning of September.

So it looks like the first estimate was 3 1/2 months. Now I am looking at another 3 months. I know the factory started up mid May and was hoping for something sooner than Sept.

So Forget the virus. What I am looking for is past experience in time it took to get your Taco.

I have patience but this is getting silly. I was hoping to have the summer to do a whole list of mods that I have lined up :-(

Honestly, it just is what it is right now. Everyone else’s wait time is basically irrelevant due to the current situation. Order up your mods, those take a while to arrive. Look in to other options if you care to; might discover some new stuff you didn’t know existed.

You have to understand how the order process works, there really isn’t a special order per say. Each dealer is allocated trucks based on sales, Toyota decides what’s sent to your dealer. So when you ask for something specific( special order) it’s not like an order sheet goes to the plant and they start building your truck. What happens is when that truck is built and allocated to your dealer is when it gets sent. If it’s never allocated to your dealer they would have to dealer trade from another dealer to get one.

Thanks for all the info and the way that Toyota handles the orders for the dealer. I was reading the Voodoo Blue thread and it seems like it is a rare colour to see at dealers anywhere. I know the dealer told me that they couldn't find one anywhere in Ontario to swap. Sooo I guess I am waiting. In the mean time I will start ordering my goodies list

You have to push sales rep to see what is in pipeline, process of getting ready to be built, the dealers can pull it up, I got my 2020 thru a allocation swap with a dealer in CA, ( I am in Philadelphia area) Ca needed a Camry to close deal, my Tacoma was due for Ca, so it was basically a dealer swap, just before the units where built, Camry went to CA & Taco came to PA

Just wanted to share what sales told me a few days ago. "Your truck is currently, "In Production". Which is great news. The current eta is the end of August - early September. It has not been assigned a VIN yet"

I had asked about the temp VIN that is assigned as I had seen info about the temp VIN in another thread that would tell you what week the truck would be built.

    Anyone heard of "In Production"

    none so far.
I’m going to be placing an order this week and my dealership conservatively told me up to 6 months... I may just take something else sooner and perhaps pay for a few “upgrades” I don’t particularly care for

There is no way in hell "your" truck is in production now and won't be delivered until September.

I will venture a guess based on actual decades of manufacturing management experience. The salesman has some access to Toyota's production software, he looked at it and saw that the allotment he tagged for you has been scheduled. Automobile production is a huge orchestration of multiple tasks that need to mesh up cleanly to maintain efficiencies. Planning production out several weeks is necessary as well as an effective buffer, glitches in supply will happen. Having a pre scheduled production allows for flexibility without having to scramble to substitute alternative schedules. i.e. cross out the ones with issues and move to the next ones in line.

TLDR; Your salesman is an idiot. The truck is listed as "In production que" Meaning they are thinking about building it in the near future.

My question is do you want a post shutdown truck? Build quality could be down with workers returning back to work after not being there for over a month, or the opposite might be true and the work force could be very focused on production.

The factory being shutdown at a time when it normally wouldn't be is my biggest concern.

I saw a couple in their 50's ride past my house in a freshly washed or delivered Gladiator yesterday. Olive drab with the star on the door.

Did you get a VON? (Vehicle Order Number)? If you don't have one, call your dealer and see if you can get it. I can use the Toyota Corp system to try and look up your order and see where it is in the pipeline.

If they don't have a VON for you, your build order doesn't exist, and they're trying to find a truck that matches your build somewhere in the US and have been unable to.

The only way I'm getting one is to put a deposit on one . My dealer has only had one like i'm looking for on their lot once. Like 3 years ago . So the only way is to put a deposit on one . I want a new truck.
