I’m getting rid of my 2015 taco for the 3rd gen 2018 that will be here next week. I feel as if I lost faith in my particular truck with various nagging issues and I said enough is enough. Battery replaced under warranty. Oil pump replaced under warranty. Vibrations like crazy for the first 3,000 Miles even BEFORE I did the toytec lift and even AFTER I did all the common fixes (carrier bearing drop, diff bushing and axle shims)

I have an internal struggle between getting my new truck and going 32/33” AT’s, Lift, wheels you know the works.. or just leaving it stock. The forums have threads that say the 3rd gens suffer similar issues as the 2nd and part of me doesn’t want to get involved.

What to do, what to do......

3rd gens have mixed reports on vibrations and issues.

That said, I have no issues, and no vibes with my lift.

Everywhere I read you can not lift the 2018 without causing issues with the electronics

I have not read that anywhere other than 1 thread asking about it and all it was, was one dealer saying the TSS is affected with no empirical data to support.

I would love to hear a logical explanation why TSS is affected by the vehicle sitting up 2" higher

Nice man, I think you will be happy with the SWDCLBOR combo. Maybe you could do 255 33s and wait on the other mods till you put it through its paces.

I just spoke to Toyota and their answer is, "The pre-collision sensor height would be raised and no longer calibrated at the height it was set to at the factory".

Trucks and Cars come in all different sizes. The sensor has to be able to cover enough area to account for all shapes of vehicles from various distances, including pedestrians. I don't think 2" is going to make a difference. The truck sits higher/lower under loads/towing. And the OEM pro grill has a different mounting location then non pro 18' grills. Other guys have already remounted their sensors and said their TSS functions nonetheless.

Congrats, on the new 2018. I'd get the new truck and drive it for a while to see how you like it and then decide. I'm 12k miles in with stock suspension with larger tires and I have no vibes. Haven't had any issues at all other than some rear diff whine. I had vibes in my lifted 1st gen and I know it can be a process to alleviate those. Seems to be a case by case basis when you lift.

And what difference does that make. When my shocks and coils wear over time and the front sags or if I have low tire pressure does it no longer work because its not calibrated.

    Sounds like bullshit.

If it can be calibrated then it can be re-calibrated

Reading the other thread, people are reporting to function just fine and the feature can be turned off anyways. So if actual users have no issues, then I could care less what an uninformed dealer has to say.

How are the 3rd gens driving with 285/75/16 tires on them with the 6 speed and new 3.5 motor? My 15 felt the weight big time when I went to 265/75/16 KO2’s but probably because they are E loads I would go C load on my 18

Wait you mean there are 2nd gens NOT delivered on high from the gods themselves, free of all earthly issues?

    Don’t be ridiculous.

Congrats on the new truck. Longbed is where it's at imo. Why not just start with some 265/75s to start with?

There is a noticeable lack of Low End Torque compared to the 2nd Gen, I imagine bigger tires will only compound the issue.

    Work in progress...
What does that TSS think about 4 hunters and a bed full of firewood? I bet that would lower the truck more than the 2 inches we are talking about raising it by.

    O
Yeah I was thinking that, just that with the double cab and long bed it really needs a bigger tire for proper visual proportions.
