Not sure why your posting here? Get yourself back to that dealer, tell him your concerns, ask him to assuage your fears or cancel the order you have a few days to cancel no problem.. Why sweat out what should be a joyous thing??

    Mostly stuff I built.
Well bud the rest of the truck is pretty much the same. There is a lot more to what I said than just about the transmission. Not bashing the auto but I choose to own and drive a manual.

So MY brand-new Tacoma had a clutch pedal that made a weird, ratchety clicking sound whenever I pushed it down - it went back to the dealer for that. The seatbelt on the driver's side for the longest time simply REFUSED to extend in cold weather, I had to bang on the roller with my fist to get it to go. The engine makes an odd howling sound (sounds like a REALLY big fan running) when I'm driving in hot weather, and gets gutless at the same time.

Know what I did? I fell in love with it anyway and drove it for eighteen years, just over 213K miles so far. I'll be driving it home again tonight.

I have a new one on order; I need more room/power and I just don't have the patience anymore to drive a manual in heavy traffic. Am I concerned about the issues brought up on this forum? A little. Are any of them deal-killers? Not to me.

No rig is perfect, even when it's new. Enjoy the good things about it, have some awesome adventures in it and create some great memories!

I didnt read all the replies. Someone may have said this...

You say u had several Toyota's in the past. I would all but guarantee if you had gone to a forum dedicated to those models upon their release you would find similar reports that wpuld have let u convince yourself you were about to own a lemon.

Truth is more people are motivated to voice opinion when its negative. When u have literally hundreds of thousands sold, finding 58 people taking to Tacoma World to say "their truck vibrates" shouldnt be a deal breaker, IMO.

Driving a M.T. would be fun if there was no traffic but in LA there is rush hour even on Sunday! And adding manual transmission would be delaying my order way back.

OP just get an independent or unbiased review. I recommend Consumer report. They'll ussually tell you the good the bad and the ugly so be ready for that. I've had no issues with mine yet, but for yesterday, I heard a door squeak when I opened my driver's side door, so now I'm $hitting on my pants in worry. First time that's ever happened to me on a brand new Toy :/

Don't let the complainers influence YOUR decision.

I've had my truck for about 2 months and I absolutely love it and have not had any of the problems people on here have been complaining about.

The transmission will get better. I test drove 3 Tacomas including mine that had the laggy shifts, but after reading on how the transmission adapts to your driving and driving it fast/accelerating a lot in the beggining in order to make it respond better, my Tacoma stoped having laggy shifts at 900 miles. Once it got used to my driving it started shifting ALOT smoother and felt more responsive.

I started to become really paranoid by reading about people's problems with the 3rd gen that I started to poison myself with thinking every little noise I heard or felt in my truck might be a problem. But then I realized I'd go crazy if I let people's complaints influence my choice to enjoy the truck.

I think for a lot of people the problems they are complaining about are the problems they're looking for. Yes some really do have real issues. But for the most part I think most "problems" aren't really problems. They're just small glitches held under a microscope.

i think you'll be fine OP, just don't let yourself not enjoy your truck because the word of other have over shadowed your expectations and heightened your paranoia.

    Best of luck!!:)

Do you need to know, or care?
Haven't lived there for 39 years :anonymous:, but still have family in Montreal. Moved to BC when I was 18 and no longer miss the snow, but still hate the rain we get on the west coast for sometimes months on end (no kidding). Love Vermont and the east coast US, one of my favourite places anywhere, with the exception of the SoCal coast between SF and LA 101 Hwy. God, that is some beautiful scenery. Plus Redwood Forest is amazing. Vermont is so beautiful, especially in the fall with all the colors.

When I was waiting for mine I made a list of all the "issues" reported, low fluids, under torqued fasteners, hood shudder, etc.... I went over the entire truck myself (I am the only one truly qualified to work on my vehicles) and found a grand total of zero problems. About the only thing I found was a tiny bit of debris under the back seat. So far no issues as all. I am getting what I consider decent MPG for what it is and find that it has more than enough power for me. It does not have the grunt like my '93 K3500 but it also does not get 10 MPG.

Don't forget the frame recall for earlier years. I hope they've figured that one out :)

I bought an auto trans TRD Off Road and I love it! Yes, it was a quart low on ATF, and yes, the u-joints needed a shot of grease, but those issues were easily corrected. I was also hesitant after researching the truck pre-purchase, but I bought an extended warranty "just in case." I couldn't be happier with my new truck!!

After my order screw up by the first dealer, I was lucky to find me the exact truck I was looking for close by with a decent price. I also got 8 yr extended warranty by Toyota for peace of mind. So far I love this truck, very smooth and tranny shifts fine with out any issue. I can't wait to take her off Roading!!!:burnrubber::kona::jellydance:

I'd cancel the order and hold out for a 2017 if I were you. Also I would not take their word for checking the fluids. Tell them you will absolutely want to WATCH them do it or NO Deal.
