Ordered the black and yellow plates a few days ago, upon further research Tacos are considered commercial.
I opted non commercial because I was thinking semis and cranes

    Will this be a problem?
I don't want to be issued plates that will be causing me problems
Or will the DMV catch it and adjust?

Kicking myself cause I should have known but I don't want to wait that long only for DMV bs

Maybe they'll make a error in your favor.

I'd say ride it out. Let's see if they correct it. Otherwise be prepared for backpay to the Golden Broke State of The People's Republic of California! I'm sure they'll love to extort even more monies from you. We all know there is no justification for our midsize trucks to be considered as commercial. Lol Let us know what happens

On a side note, I been meaning to revert back to standard plates on my truck, to me it's not really worth the extra cost for the privilege of a special plate anymore.

Yep just going to ride it out

They charged my card today but I'm guessing it will be months before I see the plates

I would just fix it sooner rather than later. California considers every pickup (unless it has a camper in the back and gets reclassified) to be a commercial vehicle. It's pretty stupid that I get to pay $399 to register my Tundra (I think that the Taco is a little cheaper).

My black plates were from my Golf R then I assigned them to my truck so you should be fine. You'll pay the fees when assigned to your taco.

I ended up getting a crappy "random" plate number/letter combo
I tried to rock it but after 5 people asked me what it meant I just repaid the 50 fee and selected the commercial option
Hopefully better luck this time or I'm just going to go back to my white plates

I gave my gf a ride to the Acura dealership to pick up her moms car from service and the sales guys were scoping the taco

The one has a 16 and they were clearly admiring the truck, got done with service bs and was walking back to my truck and the one sales guy stopped me

Hey man, my buddy and I are trying to figure out what the license plate means. I told him it was random and he gave me an odd look, like he didn't believe me
