I feel that I'm getting closer to the trailer park...

Getting clipped by a semi while waiting at a light was enough motivation to put them in. Dude took the turn too early and clipped the back of my bumper. Only bent the can carrier slightly, but was about 6 inches away from taking the entire back end of the truck out.

Driver was clueless; BC truck & driver - tried to tell me that he didn't even turn there, that I wasn't even there... Whatever. When all that I could see was red, I decided it was much more constructive just to cut my losses and go weld.

Looking for a new computer. Nothing fancy just for word, excel, photos and internet. We have been looking at an All-In-One for the space saving and price. Does anyone use Windows 8.1?

This is so going to shit storm starting tomorrow when everyone gets back on the forum...

Since I'm first to respond, hopefully you can catch this:
First, I'm in IT development, so I speak as a business power user.
Some people like to whine about the change from the start menu to the modern UI tiles, but really people, try looking beyond that and take in the bigger picture.
The OS has been rock solid for me, and it performs fast. All the hardware I plug in works with minimal effort, remote desktop is improved over 7, and I can't live without virtual machines now. It also handles multiple monitors better and allows for a per-monitor taskbar.
It's slightly nicer with Windows updates, in that automatic updates will do all their work in the background (like before), but when they are done, your login screen will warn you if you need a restart/shut down to apply them. This allows you to wait until you are done for the day and do your restart before leaving, thus having things nice and installed when you get back.

Regardless of the howling or praising of Windows 8 and 8.1, Windows 10 is slated for Q3 and brings back the start menu. The Director of IT at my company is currently testing it and he's been very happy with it in terms of stability and the usability.

whats wrong with it? most of the time the board fails on these things and a simple swap with an identical one is a fix. IMO its much cheaper to buy a new one. SSDs with more than enough capacity can be had for under 150.

Do you not see the massive rings that have been rubbed into the disc? Looks like the arms have been scrapping it

New hard drive, new OS and new Office will have to be bought. And then I'm still dealing with a slow start up and buggy comouter. New one can be had with new OS and office installed for less then 500.
