A man with a sense of humor, and romance. Take her to school.

I've stayed at the Olympic Club up in Centralia. Now we've got a family goal of staying at least a night at all the McMenamins hotel properties.

That'd be a cool thing to do... follow the elk herd around and get an antler set. I really like the way this photo was composed, too. Neat!

On a sad note... just saw an article today that some bubba(s) shot two trophy elk and left them to rot in the Siletz River. Com'onnnn.

By the way, as a retiree in Oregon (mil) don't you find it absolutely despicable how they tax your retirement versus state employees? My cousin who retired and almost moved back there told me about it. Turns out, I'll never retire back to my home state due to the laws they enacted.

I'll stay in Washington... no income tax makes it really desirable to me.

Yep, that's a big fat fail by Oregon. Seems like a great place while on active duty... don't earn your income in Oregon, don't pay state income tax as a military member. But retire and we'll get it all back! Jackass'

In my case... not bragging ...I'm weirdly fortunate, I guess, to not have been turned into a medical retiree. The buggers medically discharged me and wiped their hands of me.

I get my VA pension (as I refer to it these days), and my SSD. The VA portion isn't taxable, and the SSD, so far, has been below the taxable threshold. Call it a loophole... I call it a saving grace so I can support an incredibly beautiful & supportive wife, two great dogs and my dream truck, the Tacoma. After 20 years of figuring out how to live with PTSD... this truck and my wife are both trophies to me. I finally won at something!

How big are the dogs? Leer has a windoor option with a sliding window in the center of it, kind of like the front window of the shell. It comes with a small screen. The other option would be to go with a fixed slider style (no door) and then get the security bars to keep the dogs in with the slider open. I'd put the fixed one on the driver side, windoor on the passenger side, but that's just me :)

Hey Louis, thanks! Didn't know about stuff like security bars. Well that'd solve the issue of escape artists.

I've got a 40 lb. female Australian Cattle Dog (ACD), and a runty boy ACD 30 lb'er. They'd slip right through those windows.

What's the significance of your choice of sides for the fixed and windoor? Things I need to learn. :)

But they give us a free fishing license if you are more than 25% disabled! :D

It is a fubar state in regards to Veterans. I think the biggest reason is because we don't have a major military base here, so nobody in the state legislature give two squirts of piss about us. I keep eyeballing Alaska as an escape route.

It's funny you mention Alaska. Last night, I was thinking about moving back up there.

Houses cost a little more up there, but because you aren't paying property taxes you can get a lot more house for your money. My house note is $1K here, and only $750 of it goes to the house/interest. The rest is taxes! Even if I had the same exact job up there at the same pay it would be a nice pay increase because the income taxes are so high here. I've been looking for a job on one of the Military bases up there, but there are a lot of other .gov jobs that would be ok too.

I've got better job prospects in Washington, so I'll move back to the Seattle area when retired. Erica make damn good money as a nurse here too.

Oregon isn't an option for me. To close to my immediate family.

I can't do Washington. Too many cops and hippies for me. Don't get me wrong, I am pro-LE, but I don't like getting pulled over and harassed all the time for no reason. The gun laws are getting a bit whackado too.

Those are being challenged and about to be thrown out for being Unconstitutional.

I don't see hippies where I work or live. I see other things that piss me off, but all states are getting those communities that won't buy into our culture and ruin things.

Hippies=Democratic socialists. Anyone who drives a Prius = hippy. Anyone with a coexist bumper sticker=hippy. Anyone from California=hippy. :D

Not getting all political, but you get the idea. The dark side of Oregon is full of hippies, and why I need to move somewhere with more Freedom.

It is a lot of fun. There is one bull's antlers in particular I'm hoping to find. Thanks! I thought it made for a good pic. Wish I had, had my good camera on me.

Yea, I saw that too. So shitty. Its one thing to poach, but its a whole other thing to waste meat too. Last rifle elk season we had some garbage bags get dropped on the side of the road by our farm. There were 11 deer heads and 5 elk heads in them. All skull capped. OSP definitely showed up for that.

Just hoarding them haha. Just gives me something to do when I'm hiking and its a way to get some population data. The good bucks are like ghosts they are so damn nocturnal and reclusive. I pick up waaay more sheds than I ever see bucks.

Oh speaking of getting pulled over. A cop let me know a turn signal wasn't working the other day haha.

Yep too many hippies. Honestly though on the east side its so much nicer. The cops aren't nearly as bothersome and its pretty hippie free.

X2, Plus if they pass that new bill to tax everyone who lives in washington by the amount of miles you drive then I'm for sure moving. Its okay you can get a $5000 flat rate for unlimited miles in one year though.

Kinda yeah. My hippie sister hates people on the east side. I pointed out that I was one of those people and that I plan on making that permanent with a house. Categorized me as a "rich asshole who doesn't pay enough in taxes."
