Go to the KTM shop on the other side of the freeway. They have all manor of hoonigan machines ready to go. They have a 500 EXC already plated ready to go. I would advise the 690R, but that's a little much for a first bike and I don't think they have any in stock. They usually suck wind on the "street" models. I have a couple buddies in E-burg with KTM's that ride all kinds of single track around there, it's a good place to own a dual sport! Plus, the money you save on gas practically makes the payment on a bike. Do it! http://www.webbpowersports.com/KTM.htm

Damn those are cool! I think the 350 might be better suited for me so I could throw it around easier on the trail... the only thing is yikes, I doubt I can afford the price. I wanted something I could buy cash, not another payment.

I can't believe you know all about Eburg! I gotta meet you sometime!

I was up there on Wednesday, but didn't have much time. I work 9 hours a day, and to get to Eburg and back takes 6 hours, plus two hours of work at the airport...by the time I stop at the bike shop and refuel it's time to go kill bugs on the freeway again. Sometimes I also spend my lunch break at http://www.eburgguns.com/
As far as the expense goes, go see what they have for used bikes. They had a bad ass plated Husaberg 450 for a while that was affordable, and the salesman also ride so they know deals outside of the shop. Stay away from Yamaha-Jack's. Those dudes are grade-A dbags.

I've been meaning to take my wife up there and do some camping/wheeling/riding but there are so many cops up there I don't have as much fun as down here in Oregon. I bet I see at least ten cars pulled over in Wa. just from my house to Eburg. Sometimes more. On this side of the border it is so rare to see a cop, I wave at them. They wave back.

Dual sports command a higher price. Converting can be a headache and from the sounds of it is getting harder to title.
The used market should have DRZ400 and Husky TE610 bikes as your cheap options.
For the real ultimate dual sport, the WR250R is arguably it. I'm not saying that because I own one, but more from collective opinion that I continually hear from forums. Light, excellent maintenance intervals, and reliable. Good speed and a capable multi state tourer if you put a nice seat on it. I've found it to be forgiving, get 50 mpg in town, and I can do 70 but probably not much more (the bike isn't screaming at that speed, but you'll have to shift down and flog it to get much more). Seat is a bit tall. Biggest issue is the price.
If the WRR is too small, KTM makes a 900 that weighs the same. Is probably costlier and has a more finicky maintenance schedule, but will be beastly.

KTM maintenance isn't that big of deal on any of the bikes they sell that come with a plate. The race bikes are all the same no matter the brand, they just don't hold enough oil for street duty. I traded two WRF's for my KTM. Worth it! I like the WR platform too, but you will get splattered on the highway with a bike that small. I know, I know, people ride honda 90's around. Doesn't mean I would. Dakota my first street legal bike was a 1976 Yamaha DT360 two stroke. That was back in the 90's, and it was an old POS then but I learned how to ride on it and moved on. Lots of good old bikes out there! The old DR350's are reliable, KLR's etc. You'll find something.

KLRs are pretty heavy, no? Good for adventure but going to be hefty for dirt bike use

I know lots about Ellensburg. A few years ago my car got towed during fair. There were no "No Parking" signs when I parked. They came along and put up signs and towed my car. They claimed they made an announcement on the PA but I was in the horse barn with my friends and didn't hear it.

I made a motion for discovery as to who had originally placed the signs and when, when the signs were reported missing and who had replaced the signs and when. The city had no records.

At the hearing the court said the city's actions were "totally unacceptable" and after berating the code enforcement officer for about five minutes found in my favor. It appeared the court may have had some issues with the city. The correct decision was rendered.

Dagnabbit. Stop showing your truck off. I just paid mine off, and don't need ideas of getting another.

Truck looks awesome! But need the double cab. If I didn't I'd be doing the same to my access cab right now. Did you get your work done in a shop in OR?

No, I did it all myself. Without a shop, mostly I built it in a trailer park out in the desert near NTC with wonky electricity and battery powered tools, even the welder. I hear you guys on the double cab, but you don't want your rugrats in a race car. I mean, I guess you can make more of them if you take a digger, your call, but LT trucks are really better suited to single and access cabs with two adult occupants in five point harnesses. Access cabs fly better anyhow. Just sayin'.

Edit: not joking, trailer park fab ftw

Yeah I want the double cab so I can still do stuff with the truck when I'm not off roading. Also doing the 3 link with the panhard bar to save my fuel tank and not have to move it. And have relatively full use of the bed still. Should check out this DB LT travel build. Essentially exactly what I want to do. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/toyotally-awesome-08-tacoma.328604/

Normally the Icons come set for approx. 2.5 inches of lift, from their I just went up/down to get proper height and maintain some droop.
