You say that now.. wait a few months and you'll be buying LT. Also if you want steps I got a set, just have to look around for the bolts. Toyota OEM ones

No, but I did build a boat once which is just an upside down canopy. It's possible, but the materials are going to go over budget for sure and unless you are an exceptionally talented artist you won't be happy with the results. Laying glass is hard man. Then you have to gelcoat and paint it. That is going to cost $2K just for tools and material for something you will set on fire anyway. The good news is by the third prototype you will have a firm grasp of what's going on and will have enough tools to start your own canopy company.

Yeah Just watching the leer video on how they make them is a lengthy process which I don't have tools for.
I was also thinking of cutting up a larger one trimming it up using ply wood to bolt it together.
Maybe using some tiger hair and bondo then finish it with some roll on bed liner.
I have too much time on my hands and not enough dollar!

There are lots of ways to make the money to buy a new Leer that are easier than chopping down a long bed canopy. You're an Army dude, get creative. I like to flip guns for spare cash. It's easy; buy low and sell high just like any other commodity. Cruise CL for cheap cars and fix them up and sell them. 80's chevy pickups are always money makers. Whatever you are into, you can make money on it if you put the hamster on the wheel. Just sayin'

Prime example. Fix it for a $15, flip it for $1500. Boom, new canopy. http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/cto/5121054326.html

That's a damn good deal condition depending. It would sell quick for $2500 clean shiny and running.

No idea what they are worth to be honest. I have to find the bolts. How about $50? I'll be honest they aren't much of a running board meaning they don't hang down very much at all. Even though that's what toyota sells them as
