Alright, next month elk season rolls around and I've never coldweather camped in my RTT. Anyone have any suggestions?

Yeah, get a trailer with a heater. I kid, I kid. I just got back from archery hunting and several nights it got down in the teens. The best advice I can give you is that sleeping bag rating systems are for survival temps. Like under nice dry conditions a night in a -20F bag at -20F you will probably survive, but you might lose some toes. A cowboy bedroll is far superior. I have a couple of wool army blankets I put underneath, then a sleeping bag, then a big ass Pendleton wool blanket over that. When it's 17F you still shiver, but you'll live. Don't wear any clothes if you have a synthetic bag. When I was in boot camp we went to the field in Oklahoma in Feb. to dig foxholes in the mud. The second night out my buddy went to bed with his wet leather boots on, because the morning before his boots froze and it sucked putting them on. It dipped into the single digits that night. The next morning he said he couldn't feel his feet. I helped him take his boots off with the intent of sticking his feet in my armpits to warm them. I was young and didn't know any better. I called a drill sgt over and he took his socks off. His toes came off with them.

Since then I have been to several winter survival courses and learned crawling in the fart sack bucky is much warmer.

X2. Also a good sleeping bag goes a long way. Leave a window partially open for ventilation and your good.

I have the smallest mr. Buddy heater for when changing clothes to take the edge off. If you have an annex then I've heard of people putting the second to smallest mr buddy down there and it heats up the tent really well.

My sleeping bag should be good good it's a north face Goliath 0 degree bag. I've had it down to 20 degrees in both AK and Wyoming and I was happy as a clam. Speaking of Pendleton wool blankets, I'll pick up a few, my cousin works there and I'll have him use his discount to bring the cost down. I have no way of knowing what the weather will be like, should I throw a tarp on top and strap it down?

It's elk season, it's going to be like Siberia. A tarp is always a good thing to have, gives you a clean place to bone out your quarters. Be prepared for sticker shock on the blankies, even with a discount. Where are you hunting?

A buddy of mine has a camp over near Thorpe on some private property. I'm more worried about the rain or snow combined with wind. It'll find its way in between the rain fly and tent body in no time

A friend of the family is desperately hiring cabinetmakers. Not sure what experience is needed. Job would be in Salem area.
Most of the applicants he's having to turn away because they can't pass a drug test. WTF is wrong with people? You want job, quit being dumb.

Anyway, if you are interested to work with a great guy and aren't afraid of solid work, I can hook you up.

I got back to to the valley Saturday, had a pretty good trip. I killed a nice bill. Our 3-man group finished with two bulls and two bucks.

Congrats man. I got a little buck and wore out another pair of boots this year. It was really dry in Eastern Oregon, had a tough year full of missed opportunities and close calls. Bow hunting is exciting, but it is the single most frustrating thing I have done in my life. Killing stuff with sharp sticks is hard, I understand how valuable that meat is. EDIT: That's the Enterprise safeway, what unit were you hunting? I was in Murderers creek mostly, some Silvies.

If you're speaking of your Tacoma, you have zero sympathy from me. It looks like time and effort well spent
