It's seems some runners came with 4.30's and the elocker? Also would a front diff from a t100/early tundra fit in the taco? I've read some of those came with the 8" front and 4.30's too but no elocker. They have the 8.4 r&p?

No t100s. They are the same drive train as 1st gen tacomas, 1st gen tundras and 3rd gen runners. At least front diff wise. Run a 7.5" one. will need a 2nd gen tundra or tacoma or 4th/5th gen 4runner for a front diff.

the 8.4'' diff came in 1st gen tundras/tacomas and t100s and 2nd gen tacomas, as well as v6 powered 2nd gen tundras. Its the open diff. NOT the elocker. the 4runners came with a different 8'' diff called the V6/turbo one.

4.30s came with a lot of different trucks. Even 4.56 and 4.88s where factory for some. NOT in 2nd gen tacomas/4th gen 4runners generally though. But im not 100% on 4 cylinder tacoma/runner gear ratios for 2nd/4th gen. I know 4.10 came with 4 banger 5 speeds. But not sure what 4banger autos came with. could be 4.30s. Best way to figure that out is find one and check the gear codes.

Here use this as a good reference. Its not perfect, but pretty close.

here is the key for reading gear ratio codes

Kinda looking for cheaper options. I've never done a gear swap. With my older trucks it was pretty easy to find thirds and just swap em and be done. If I could find a rear 4.30 elocker third, I'd be more inclined to pay and have front regeared.

Been a while since I've been to a junk yard. Might find some other things I want too.

i wonder how much difference the 4.30's would be vs 4.56 or 4.88

Not much between 4.30 and 4.56. 4.30 to 4.88 is a bit of a jump. I think 8 teeth on the 4.88 pinion vs 9 on 4.30. 4.10 has 10 on the pinion.

Only thing I just thought of, is it might be hard to find a reverse 4.30 r&p for the HP 8" front. : dunno:

ya looking at charts the 4.30 should be GTG with 34's.

I wish i had more experience setting gears or id just shell out the money for a front and rear R&P and do it myself. I haven't set gear since i lived in AK, that was almost 8 years ago.

Take that insurance check, and stick it in the front bumper account. What are they going to give you for the damage? If you don't mind me asking.
