    If you had a 1st gen, the answer would definitely be 4.88s. It may still be the right answer for you because of the auto even tho the 4.0 has more grunt than the 3.4.

    If you were a manual, the answer would be a whole lot more subjective.

    I've heard from some first gens that 4.88's and 285's seem to be perfect so Im thinking it will be with 35's for me, with more reasons than just that.. Im just hoping that since I won't be on 35's for about a year (ordering gears at the end of this month though because I want lockers) that Ill be running the engine to high just to do highway speeds for trips in summer. I guess ill just have to take it slow for one year..

    With the automatic and 33s, or a manual with 35s, this is true because of the gear ratio within the transmissions.

    The best mod I have done is go to 4.88s. It puts the powerband back into the sweet spot with 33s.

    I've got 4.56s with my 33s. Yet i don't have them Installed, but after me readings awhile back it's seemed sensible for my situation. Plus i got a great deal :)

    Wow.. i fail at life lol. Your wanting 35s...

    Your 4.88s amd 33s for now would for sure have your truck a little more rapped out then om 4.56. But 4.88 would be better for your 35s, depending on what your looking for. More control offroad but a higher rpm on the road.

    Im thinking it'll be worth it and for one year ill just have to drive slower across the state... I think the only time i'll really notice is when im crossing the state for trips in the summer wanting to do 75mph.

    I have 4.88's with 37's and it is exactly the same as stock gears with stock tires. The speedometer is even correct. If you want stock like performance with 35's, get 4.56 ratio. If you would like slightly deeper gears with 35's, get 4.88. Sure, your top speed will suffer and mileage will suck at freeway speeds with 4.88's and 33's, but you will have some gnarly bottom end! It's not a taco, but I run 4.88's in my FJ80 on 33's. It's like a monster truck in low range, shifts faster than an F1 car, but tops out at about 35mph. It will still do 80mph without having the motor too wound up on road trips.

    Would anyone be interested in a set of 285/65/16? I think they're 65... my sister in Oregon wants to get rid of them on her Silverado for something that'll get better mileage.

    I don't remember what it's like being on stock with stock tires haha but that does help. Im 99% sure I won't be going bigger than 35's but who knows.
    Mileage and speed will suffer but it's only for one summer, I think I'll like it better in the end.

    I have a set of 285/70/17 I am actually thinking a buddy of mine might be interested. I sent him a message on here with your screenname to see if he is. He has the regular stock Hwy tires that tacomas come with.

    I would but..
    A) I don't want to have to upgrade the rear axle
    B) I want to be able to NOT RUB at full lock/stuff..

    I know @username can fit them without rubbing but I don't want to tub and not sure I want glass fenders for my purposes

    If I had it to do over again I would have kept my midtravel setup on 33's. Take my truck for a 3 hour road trip and you're ready to pour gas on it and flick a match. Nothing like loud tires and unbalanced double beadlocks on the freeway, combined with the rattle of bypass shocks on all four corners. When I burn these 37's up I might end up going with 35's on "normal" rims. The added maintenance of LT sucks as well, I don't drive it much because it eats parts.

    Hmm.. My truck is loud enough now but hopefully going to fix that with dynomat and c-channel rubber on the roof rack.
    Thats my fear with LT is its just a constant tearing apart the front
