My first thought was vacuum leak too. How does it idle if you just start it in neutral? Should be around 750 rpms or so, higher with the A/C on. Which leads me to my next question, does it only happen with the A/C on? Any codes when you scan it? http://www.customtacos.com/tech.old.../06toyrm/06toypdf/06rmsrc/rm2006ta/006005.pdf

The truck idles about 1100, AC is off. When AC is on at idle it goes up a little which is normal. No codes when i scan it, the idle does drop slow as I sit and watch it. Takes maybe... 2-3 minutes to drop below 900rpm.

I may have heard a faint leak when I shut the truck off and crawled under the front. But hard to tell since it's windy as shit and I don't have room in the shop to try.

Wind died long enough for me to give a listen. Can't hear anything noticeable. I'm assuming if it is leaning towards a vacuum leak, it has to deal with my lines I messed with during my front clamshell swap. I'm just hoping for some ideas that doesn't involve me tearing back into that lol.

Ya I would double check any and all vacuum lines. I usually just spray carb cleaner around the intake plenum and listen for the RPM to rise, when it does, you found the area of the leak. Keep a fire extenguisher handy!

Did you inadvertently mess with the throttle body at all? I know the clamshell is on the complete opposite end of the engine, but the throttle body has a small idle air valve that is modulated for controlling airflow in while not standing on the skinny pedal. If that got tweaked at all, it can throw things off for you.
That being said, I agree with above posts that it is a vacuum leak somewhere. I know I have a huge leak on my brake booster on the other car that is right up front. I just keep forgetting to deal with it when the car isn't hot.

Thanks for waiting in Hillsboro to meet up with me Chris! I got to Les Schwab at 5:45 to get that spare mounted, and they were able to squeeze me in right before closing.

    Thanks again man!

Aren't tie rods the same left to right? I mean, you can't really get an inner tie rod that's meant for the left side only, correct?

On a 1st gen, the outers are side specific, the inners are not.

    crap bolted and welded together....
So I havent found a leak. I even went through the FSM for my truck and that didint point me in the right direction either.

So I'm back to square one. Any ideas? I Just noticed this problem when i posted, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't doing the RPM change when I drove home from the shop when i was done doing my clamshell swap. I checked the two lines I took apart pertaining to it, and they were just breathers. So now I'm back to having no idea.

Im used to trucks and older rigs having vacuum lines everywhere, so not having almost any on mine is new lol. So Im not even 100% i found them all, but Ive spent awhile crawling around the engine bay and cant seem to find anymore. Im just baffled, seems like a vacuum leak but I just cant solve this problem.

Im wondering if my coolant is actually that low... that was another possible outcome apparently. I checked my overflow and it is below the "low" mark but still in the reservoir. Im boilng up some water now to throw in and see if maybe thats it? Ive never heard of such a thing, but its possible perhaps?

Nah, one time I took a digger in a wash out and gnarfed my radiator. Lost all coolant, was 30 miles from pavement so I pinned it toward home. It started losing power (overheated) and I let it cool, poured all the water I had in it, pissed in it, and made it home. Ran fine other than losing power when it was really hot.

Hmm. Fuel filter? Water in gas? Get a yota tech to scan it, sometimes there are hidden codes most scanners won't see. (Toyota "enhanced" codes) If the coolant was really low where did it go? Head gasket leak maybe?

60-0 in about a foot. Was just down this road a couple days before, it was fine. Flash flood washed the road out, just looked like a shadow. Did a nice wheelbarrow!

I'm a fed, can't touch the stuff. Not that I want to of course, but it's funny how being a Federal employee means that law doesn't apply to me. That's some BS for ya.

I only added maybe... 1qt of water. Took it for a drive, level is fine in the tank and doesn't fluctuate RPMs. When I throw it in neutral it drops to 1200 and stays there till I stop, then drops to about 750 for idle. This is by far the weirdest thing I've ever came across.

Haven't been active here for very long so I wanna know: How many people are in/around Corvallis?

I see @Bobert14's truck parked during the day all the time and I definitely know that machine shop @04LTtacoma, I'm assuming you must be taking ME250 right now? I saw another very nice white first gen going down HWY 20 headed toward Corvallis with a topper, swingout, and a bit of a lift I think?

    I'm around Corvallis and Salem/Keizer a lot,IMG_2327.jpg IMG_2353.jpg if y'all see me.
