And I am asking the OR/WA BS thread to educate me:

Stumbled upon a thread on PBB about Rubicon Trail photos, and someone was using a Marine grade GPS Lowrance HDS5/520C with a white sat receiver mounted on top of the snorkel.
    Thoughts?
    Benefits?
    Stupid?
    Stupid expensive...

I have a Garmin 265wt "pedestrian" GPS that has some of the NF/FS road around WA/OR/ID/MT but zero on topo or even the ability to download maps/trails to it (i.e. WABDR).

Stupid. The new hotness in offroad nav is to mount an iPad in the dash and get a GPS dongle for it mounted on the roof. Motion-X gps app can be used offline with google earth/bing style aerial pictures cached. I use that app with my iPhone and have the tracks for OBDR on it, works great. It also has forest roads, topo, etc.

(FJC, but you get the idea)

X2. I used that app when we did the Idaho BDR since I could download their tracks into it. Worked really well

I personally haven't done the CMC yet, but I can help with the welding as soon as I get my tank filled, unless you don't mind solid beads from innershield.

Thank man, Seems pretty straight forward to me, Trace out, cut and weld back in. I just don't want to catch my body mount on fire!

He wasn't even sneaky though! Easy 190 yard shot. I think my mistake was shooting when he was standing up instead of on all fours. They get a little skinny standing up. Should've waited for him to get on all fours and have a larger center of mass. He didn't jump when I shot and I couldn't find any blood so...I guess a clean miss. I'll check the woods he took off into tomorrow morning just to be safe though.

Ok need opinions on RTT mounting style. To the side? Or off the back? I'm leaning off the back, that way if I need to keep some things in the bed, they're easily accessible through the annex without having to reach over the bedside.

Try it both ways and see what you like best. Although once you decide to mount it off the back and cut the rails, there's a good chance it won't fit if you decide to change it to over the side.

It's also very easy to misjudge their size...and the range. A big bear at 300 is the same size as a little bear at 190. I look at their ears to judge how big they are.

I can only imagine that number will climb although I've yet to see any 16s on the road.

Keep your eyes peeled for anything broken off or trampled down! I lost a blood trail like that once and was still able to find blood every 10-20yrds but there was definitely sign of where the bear had traveled. Found him, what seemed a mile away from where I shot him. Turned out I was only a few hundred yards from my truck! Damn bears and their thick hides, it will matt a wound up quick!

He dove into an overgrown xmas tree farm. Crap sight distance and no brush to show his way. Running a grid. Absolutely no sign to follow in here. I thought for sure 300winmag would make quick work of him.
