Yes. My truck had two 2.5" shocks in the front, and even with the lighter blue fox oil it rode like a freight train for the first few miles in subero temps. There really isn't much you can do about it. The other day I topped off the power steering fluid in my FJ80 and noticed it poured like honey. It was -15F that morning. Even my new SS with magnetorheologic shocks rides pretty harsh in the cold.

No, just SS. It's actually made by Holden in Australia. It's rear wheel drive, has a 415hp LS3 motor and is a unicorn in the US. They only import a couple thousand a year, just enough to use them in NASCAR. Sold the Tacoma, still have the FJ80 and Duramax. I test drove the TRDPRO taco and 4runner, but was so let down by the motor I couldn't pull the trigger on either one. I can't see them as being any better than my old 05 (when it was stockish).

This review is why I bought an SS.

Need me to hold your SS for awhile, especially in summer time? I'll even drive it to make sure everything stays in motion...

The motor is bulletproof. I've been driving a version of this since 2013 (from the Australian plant).

Ground clearance is "meh" after being built, but it's not meant for our roads. Hah!

G8? It is a great car as well. You mean it sits too low? I haven't had any issues, but I don't take it wheelin' either.

No problem. You want directions to my secret fishing hole too? :burnrubber:

Going out on a limb here as I'm not entirely sure what I'm talking about, but if they're oil filled shocks, naturally oil gets thicker, viscous, in colder temps. The thicker oil would produce a stiffer harsher ride. Gradually as it warms up it will be more free flowing and soften/dampen the ride. :Dunno:

Since I'm not too familiar with shock oils, I'd guess it's a really light weight oil, and possibly it could freeze?

That's correct. The force of the piston sloshing through the cold oil actually warms it, but it takes a while.

I doubt the oil would freeze. Possible but doubt it. Become a thick glob...hell yes though!

Most shock oils at 2wt, 5wt, or 10wt. I think you can get other wt's but not super knowledgeable on that. It also depends on the shock manufacturer. Like King uses oil for heat in an airless environment (nitrogen charged shocks). A lot of shocks will end up in the 100-300 degree temp range depending on use. So a shock thats starting at freezing temps will be a bit harsh till its warmed up.

Ive noticed my shocks being a bit harsher for the first couple of miles in our colder temps (trucks been parked outside over nights in the 20 degree weather)

The steelhead are thick in the Umatilla and John Day river right now.

Fox oil is supposed to be good from -70F all the way to 400F. I don't know what weight it is, but it pours like water at room temp.
