Don’t know prices, but if your looking credit unions usually are cheaper for warranty/mechanical breakdown insurance.

 

Out west about an hour from Portland. You take 26 over to 6; it's the same network as Brown's Camp.

 

I haven’t heard good things about 3rd party warranties, I’m looking to stick strictly to Toyota warranty. Thank you though!

 

It'd been several weeks since my last trip and as usual that meant I had a bad case of the shakes. Spring is such a frustrating time from an adventure perspective - the weather seems so nice, and yet everywhere interesting is still covered in snow. And, the winter staple - the desert - is getting hot.

You can imagine my delight when a check of the weather showed that the Alvord Desert - a place we'd visited for the first time last October - was going to have weather in the mid-70's. From my perspective, we hadn't spent nearly enough time there exploring the roads; from @mrs.turbodb's point of view: we'd skipped all of the hot springs!

The horror, I know. It was time to go!

...I don't know if anyone actually remembers the last time we visited, but one of the most remarkable things about the Playa is the surreal experience you get when driving on it at high speed. It's so flat, and so vast, that objects in the distance appear stationary while the ground around the truck is flying by. The only reaction I've ever seen to this phenomenon is a big-old-smile, and that's what happened this time as well, as dust kicked up behind us, hanging in the still air - a Taco contrail.

If you haven't been out there much, take University FP to Cedar Tree, it gets you on trails the fastest

 

When the hell did you move to K-town? Next time I am up there I'll hit you up... my parents live just on the other side of I-5 (well, a few miles past that).

 

Anyone have a hookup on super white fenders? I’m about to just order some rockauto ones and have my uncle paint them.

 

...I started the engine. I was already in 4Lo, and I also engaged the front and rear lockers, hoping that the passenger tires which were on slightly firmer ground would be enough to pull the truck out.

Nope. More wheel spin. And more sinking. The front wheel was now up just above the center cap and the rear axle was just touching the water.

We were well past "sh*t" at this point on the cuss-o-meter, and the camera was long forgotten. Sorry.

I have a very large back yard and typically some beverages. I'm lacking in patio furniture, but you're definitely welcome to sit on the edge of the deck with me or drag a dining room chair out, heh.

 

...The last few miles passed quickly at this point - we could taste victory. @mrs.turbodb even looked over and said, "Well, it was nice that one of the routes worked out!" And then we crested the last rise. In front of us - we could clearly see - Flook Lake. And not just Flook Lake - we could also see our road disappear directly into the middle of the lake...

I think its Keizerite. I may be mistaken, its been 17 years since I lived there. Need any hookups on anything? You still commuting up to the Portland area?

My sister, BIL, and their two kiddos live in northern California. I am joining them for an Oregon trip during the first week of June. You probably know what I'm going to ask next.

But don't worry, I'm not one of those fools that drops into a regional forum and demands to know the most bestestest and secretestes spots as if I've earned it. Just need some guidance.

Our base camp will be the Crater Lake area. We will mostly camp in NF areas (I believe that my kin has that covered). Not sure how much wheeling/off-roading we will be doing; while I'll have the Taco, they'll have a minivan. Sad bastards.

They're all pretty hearty, and wouldn't be opposed to a bit of adventure. Really, they want to focus on the kiddos' education regarding volcanoes and the Lewis and Clark expedition. Any thoughts?

It won't be all forests and games...we'll be stopping in Bend for CVT (hopefully more than window-shopping) and a Deschutes visit. If any of you are around, I'd love to meet and have some brews.

Did you move to that region, or just visiting?

Hoping for the same.

Hahaha that was only the first, but far from the last! 5th in the utv class after blowing up 4wd in the first lap. We're still going hard tonight!

 

Came to OR in Feb. DL arrived about a week later. Updated SBR stamp came in March. CHL in April. Plates just touched down this week.

It's a process, lol. But apparently I'm an Oregonian now.

 

Oregonian might be going a little far, Oregon resident sounds right.

I have been in Washington 10 years but will never claim it. People get really confused when they ask where im from, and where I live in a 5min conversation.
