Hey Guys - The wife and I are looking to get out and do some camping and wheeling during the upcoming long weekend. I was hoping for somewhere with not a lot of people...Thinking somewhere in eastern Oregon would be nice. Any ideas?

Thanks Cody, and Mike! I had an amazing birthday weekend out wheeling with David and my brother - wish you could've made it too, Mike. There will be some awesome photos and videos uploaded soon - once we get unpacked and clean the dust off everything.

Sorry, don't know a good shop in Portland. But if you had bought a set of my Sliders (Marshall-Fab) I have a great powder coater. :)

He does a great job, but I will worn custom colors usually takes him a few to get done.
He does alot of production work in satin black thou so if u want satin black he's usually had it done in a couple days.

    Hey Evan,

What would your powder guy do a TRD skid for in black?

Don't do a skid in PC. Just use a rattle can or POR stuff. First scrape on the skid will tear a strip of paint down to metal. If you do it in rattle can, you can easily touch it up. If you PC it, you can still touch up with rattle can, but now you are back to the same starting point. Just prime first, paint second, third, and possibly fourth as well. You can also do it like me, and prime, then use a different color for each layer on the skid plate.

For fun effects, paint a first layer or two in red, then do another layer or two in black so when you scratch the skid, it looks like it bleeds

This truck won't be bashing rocks , that's why it has A TRD skid... My dirt bike is what I OffRoad. So powder wil be fine unless bugs chip the powder lol

So my new job has me taking 3 breaks a day. 15 min @ 830, 30 min @ 11, 15 min @2. Yesterday I stared at Facebook during breaks. Today, I can't do anymore of that. Can't we just get back to work and leave earlier in the day? Time to look at something more useful in my life...TW

    New hobby...

First build, helped by someone that does this all the time - .223/5.56

First build on my own, for a friend's fiance'. 80% lower - .223/5.56

My .308/7.62 in progress. Upper complete except for the backordered forward assist

They forgot the safety selector in the lower parts kit, so that sucks. Also was sent the wrong bolt carrier group. Sigh.

Just make sure the 7.62/.308 can handle the higher power of the .308. The 7.62 rounds have a little less punch to them than the .308 from what I have heard, so it is like shooting +p or +p+ type rounds and it will tear up a gun faster and be potentially very dangerous if the gun isn't built for it.

It's actually an LR-308 build using a good ol' American made barrel, so it'll be fine.

But thanks for the warning, this has been a big (fun) learning experience so far.

It isn't really higher pressure that is the danger, it is the chamber dimensions. SAAMI spec .308 WIN headspace gauge is different than a 7.62 NATO. 1.631-1.632 is perfect for both. U.S. Military field reject limit for the M60 & M14 is 1.6455, nearly 16 thousandths beyond commercial (SAAMI) GO, & nearly 8 thousandths beyond commercial (SAAMI) field reject limit! Point is, he's probably fine to fire whatever, but a worn out M60 probably isn't.
