Been battle tire wear for a while. Outer lugs wearing excessively fast to inner lugs. Like drastically. The driver side being significantly worse than the passenger. Outer lug wore down to slicks, inner lugs still had 1/4”-5/16” of tread life left.

Anyways, after multiple, multiple shops seeing the truck, alignment after alignment, being told nothing is wrong, yada yada.

Bought new tires Monday, alignment being done now. Techs are saying both lbj’s are worn and have excessive play in them.

Likelihood of both lbj’s going bad simultaneously? Im skeptical.

Would bad lbj’s cause excessive outside wear? Everything I’m reading is it should cause inner wear, not outer.

    Truck has the following.

1.75” lift up front. Coil over
1.5” lift in the rear. Leaf springs.

    Truck has 123k.

UCA, LCA and upper and lower bj’s are original.

Convinced my wear issues are the result of poor alignment after poor alignment but this is the first shop that has actually “found” something wrong. Again skeptical though because this issue didnt just suddenly come on. It’s been a battle for a couple years now. Prematurely wore out a set of coopers, then a set of Goodyears, not trying to repeat for a third time.

    New skins.

    Alignment printout for you experts.
Quote for 617.27 for both lbj replacement.

Said that’s the best they could do with the ball joints being bad.

I must have missed it. How many times did they get rotated?

Every 5-6k. Didn’t do cross rotation. Just front to back. So both sides had similar wear on both front and rear.

    Tire wear essentially looked like

    Drivers side
    Outer / inner

    Passenger side
    Inner \ outer

Driver side wear was way more extreme than passenger.

Currently rabbit holing tw for what all is involved with doing the whole lca replacement. The shop quoted ball joints only. I have a feeling that quote is going to turn into everything is fucked and we are going to have to cut it out.

How big of a job is this for a guy who’s never done it before?

    Editing for clarity….

I had never done it before, and I managed to do it in a day. A full day though. Definitely recommend a good sawzall blade for cutting through the bolts. It wasn't coming out any other way.

It’s not too bad. I fought like hell doing my lower balljoints. Second time around I bought TRQ lowers for $90 each off EBay shipped to the door and bought the Poly Peformance Taco bolts. I cut the OEM ones off and put the TRQ and Taco bolts back in. I set my bolts for max castor put my SCP upper in position G. Used a measuring tape to set toe and a level and a 17” chunk of wood for castor. It was good enough to take to the alignment shop. I had to do a little grinding on my Taco Tabs because I have the Marlin frame braces. I was into it about 6hrs. If your OEM it would be easier. If you can install your front coils it’s basically a couple more bolts deep.

Thank you. I did install my shocks, coils, leaf springs and hangers myself. I would be buying complete oem assemblies, that is if I can get my hands on them. Olathe claims to have them in stock and on sale.

I’m going to take it to get a second opinion first. I’ll do some reading, watch some videos and as long as it doesn’t require any crazy speciality shit or equipment I’ll give it a whirl when it gets warm out.

Could always come over to my place and do them at some point. Lowers aren't very fun but if you've never done them before they're probably ready.

Those shady north slopes can be bad till late may /early June. That area is in a snow belt 49 degrees north ski resort gets some of the highest snow totals in the area.
