My sister, BIL, and their two kiddos live in northern California. I am joining them for an Oregon trip during the first week of June. You probably know what I'm going to ask next.

But don't worry, I'm not one of those fools that drops into a regional forum and demands to know the most bestestest and secretestes spots as if I've earned it. Just need some guidance.

Our base camp will be the Crater Lake area. We will mostly camp in NF areas (I believe that my kin has that covered). Not sure how much wheeling/off-roading we will be doing; while I'll have the Taco, they'll have a minivan. Sad bastards.

They're all pretty hearty, and wouldn't be opposed to a bit of adventure. Really, they want to focus on the kiddos' education regarding volcanoes and the Lewis and Clark expedition. Any thoughts?

It won't be all forests and games...we'll be stopping in Bend for CVT (hopefully more than window-shopping) and a Deschutes visit. If any of you are around, I'd love to meet and have some brews.

Did you move to that region, or just visiting?

    Hoping for the same.

Always an inspiration. Can't wait for the next one.

Came to OR in Feb. DL arrived about a week later. Updated SBR stamp came in March. CHL in April. Plates just touched down this week.

It's a process, lol. But apparently I'm an Oregonian now.

Oregonian might be going a little far, Oregon resident sounds right.

I have been in Washington 10 years but will never claim it. People get really confused when they ask where im from, and where I live in a 5min conversation.

Only commute on Mondays. The majority of my other travel is to Tigard to see the GF.

Not sure what you got in terms of hookups, but I need to always gather names for various home repair situations. Some of my projects in no particular order or timeframe:
    • find a better way to board up the outside crawlspace access to prevent rodent intrusion
    • Pipe fireplace for gas, get a gas fireplace. Might as well pipe for the water heater so it's ready to go when the electric one dies in... 10, 20 years? I might be moved out by then, who knows. Might as well do it though since it's right there.
    • fix furnace ducting (it sags and is pretty beat up in places)
    • insulate under the house and put in new visqueen
    • build a shed with a concrete pad
    • tear down fence and replace with chain link
    • concrete the gravel RV pad, redo the driveway that is crumbling and has a nasty angle in one section for cars
    • re-insulate walls

I always liked the High Desert Museum

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
Better built barns for your shed/pad. I can get you a name for someone to pour the pad too if you want that done. Same with the driveway. Let me get you a number for my dad's concrete/driveway guy. He's also a licensed contractor. I'll pm you info.

I’m the same way, moved back to Oregon in May, and waited until December to get a new license plate, still delaying my ID.

Also my annual family camping trip outside of Prineville this weekend. Was anyone on a overland convoy in the Ochoco mountains this time last year? I was hunting and stumbled on 15+ tacos

Last couple times I've tried to go run Firebreak and the other stuff out west, I've gotten burned. Third time's a charm.

Anyone with skids/sliders and some decent-sized tires wanna come wheel this weekend?

I got it already for the $1095. I f’d up and told him how much I was getting quoted in my town and told me they wouldn’t budge on the $1095 because they know they’re beating someone else already. Still happy with it though, nice peace of mind for the next couple years.

Summer in the Pacific Northwest is hard to beat. So, I wouldn't blame you for wondering why - with a week of sun and 75°F in store before Memorial Day - we were headed for the inclimate weather of the Oregon-Idaho border and Hells Canyon.

    So let's start there.

Read the first part of the story and see all the photos - Cold Day in Hell('s Canyon)

As we ticked away the miles, there were two things going through our minds: first - how beautiful it was down here at bottom of the canyon. A bit further north, the sun was now out again, the temperatures were in the 80°F's, and the many-greens-of-spring were all around us. Second - where was this horrible road that we'd been warned - and become so excited - about?!

It's all covered in the full story, complete with photos: Hells Canyon Part 3 - Dug Bar, "Gold Mines," and Horses

Hey - curious if any of you OR folks are a licensed electrician? I'm looking to get some electrical work done at a building in Portland. If that fits, DM me and I can provide further details.
