I want more snow! Mt hood is supposed to have up to 5feet of new snow this week. Wonder how much driving in it could actually be accomplished.

Sorry: this question has been nagging at me for awhile. How do you best manage “snow runs”? What is needed to get into deep snow and not get yourself stuck quickly?

simplest answer "flotation", a wide footprint. airing down your tires (so having an air compressor to air back up, the ability to re-set a bead, and/or beadlocks). recovery is a must also (winch, another vehicle, yank straps, shovel)

Thanks. Been putting off the air compressor for a year. Sounds time to get it.

Nothing too exciting... maybe a little rust
There are other options as well, I use a co2 tank with a fixed regulator to air back up. It is super quick but I have to have the tank refilled every so often.

There's no replacement for displacement.... Weight displacement that is. The wider you can make your foot print the better. My last truck I had 35x14.5 tires on it and at about 4-5 psi were pretty much 20" wide. That and since it only weighed about 2200lbs it would get up and float very easy. Before I knew it I would have 4' below me. Too much throttle and the truck dug through the layers was how I found out how much I was on top of.

Also know when to say enough is enough, and don't go alone. Probably the 2 most important pieces of advice I can give in that last sentence. You can lose track of how far you've gone and next thing you know help is miles away and your stuck up shit Creek slowly turning into a popsicle.

Thank you! Most snow I’ve been in has been about 10-12” whenever it gets over that, I’ve found it hard to keep moving and stay on top. Sounds like airing down could help with that. Having a double cab long bed probably doesn’t help as far as the weight. But I’m curious to give it a try a couple more times this winter.
I always have a friend with, in another vehicle so that helps when one of us gets stuck. I love playing in the snow!

If you do air down, do it in increments. Get a feel for how the tire is affected and be careful below the 10psi mark. Watch what the sidewall of the tires are doing. At or below 10psi it becomes a lot easier to lose a bead and without the right tools you won't be able to seat the tire back on the rim.

    Thanks.
Believe it or not, I have had to bead a tire with starter fluid and a match. Good times. Lol

I think we had to do it on a trailer tire or something. Once was enough. the ratchet strap is a much better method.

I only took a few.(it got deeper than that, but when I sank crotch deep getting out of the truck I didn’t feel like waddling off the road to get a pic)
