When you get to browns camp how do you know what trail is what?

 

They have a map for the whole area you can pick up from a host there and all the trails are clearly marked at the beginning and end.

 

Hey everyone.

I haven't participated in this thread much (mostly lurked...or...um...bypassed), but I was wondering if anyone could suggest a destination Forest Service Road or something within 3 hours of Seattle.

I finally get a weekend off, and I was thinking about heading out somewhere with a couple friends and driving into a place to set base camp and do some exploring (on foot or wheel).

I have recovery gear, but my truck is basically stock, so if you have any suggestions, I'm all ears.

Got it. No, I have never been ATV riding out at the dunes

 

Yes, there are ATV only trails. Stuff at the dunes (at least in Florence) is not marked very well. The only thing that's marked are main sand roads. Trails are anyones guess.

But if its only wide enough for an ATV and you take your truck down it - good luck getting someone to help you.

 

I doubt that. The trails where the trees are only as wide as a quad trail and they go deep into a sand hole.

Head east on highway 410 out of Enumclaw. A few miles past the town of Greenwater you'll come to several FS roads. The first will be FS70 to the left/northside of the highway. A few miles further down the highway will be FS73, 74 & 75. All off to the right of the highway. All are well within a 3 hour drive of Seattle.

 

Is that in Wenatchee national forest?

 

No, its Snoqualmie National Forest, and Mt. Rainer National Park.

Are there places to throw down a tent and make a fire back up on the FS roads, or is it day-use only?

 

I can't speak for how it compares to 410, as I have never been out to those FS roads, but there are also a lot of FS roads off I-90 just past North Bend. Exit 38 for example has a lot that can be explored, and is only a few miles East of NB.

 

I don't think there are many restrictions on use. IIRC I've seen a lots of fire rings not far from the main FS roads. Usually, you'll find small side tracks that end at a clearing that's been used for over night camping.

On another note, while driving to work tonight I saw MetalFab 4x4's FJ. That this is a beast

 

There are some insane FJ's in Tigard. Full LT... No doors ETC...

 

Not sure... I was on 217 a lot this week dealing with a new job and I saw more then one fully LT fj's... Yellow one's blue one's cream one's ETC all have their doors off! Although I drove like 1,000 miles this week so who knows...
