Ben, don't mount it to the spot in green. It makes the lid really heavy to open and managing wires would be annoying. I'd like to see what twistedfreedom figured out since there's virtually no space behind that cubby. I personally don't like mounting next to the side of the console area by the footwell because it's just room for abuse. I've seen one guy mount a full size galaxy in the lower cubby of the door, but adjusting that seems awful.

That leaves my install or robs (the red spot in your pic).
Benefits of mine is that it's easy to operate and read. Drawback is that you need an aftermarket deck and it ONLY fits the cobra 19 dx models. I think even the uniden 520 might be too tall. Midland just came out with a new model but I didn't check measurements.
Robs design is ideal for large radios, protecting the unit, security, and ease of install. Drawbacks would be ease of operation and viewing readout of course.

If it was me, I would have to decide on my priorities. If you are going for a new head unit in the near future, you are going to kick yourself for not doing my install with the cobra 19dx.
If you are keeping with the factory deck, I would highly consider dumping the cobra and getting a full size unit to stick in robs mounting spot I know that everything operates at 4 watts, but that guy's galaxy was so much clearer and stronger than anyone else's setup that there was no comparison.

What antennas are you all running? Been having trouble with mine, thinking I need to step up to a 3'.

If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
Thanks for the input Mike. I will have to weigh my options, and put some serious thought into it. I'm liking Rob's idea (the red area), but I might still do the lid :p since the unit is fairly light, and I think once the wiring is installed it would have enough slack to not be in the way. These are all ideas for a "permanent" solution, and I would still have to figure out antenna mount options as well (on that note: I just picked a 3' piece of 1/8' x 2' steel to cut into a mount like yours. I would do the single-DIN install, but I don't see myself upgrading my stereo in the near future, so I think that's out for now.

For now, it will temporarily be mounted with some industrial velcro to the side of the center cubby (pictured)

The guy gave me a Maxrad 33" whip w/ a magnetic base & 12' of coax. From what I could find on the web, it seems to be a decent antenna, and valued at more than the CB itself. I think this is the model/base I have (there's no model #s on it ).

    Antenna (MUF4305NGP* 430-450 MHz Field tunable 5 dB/3 dB Collinear/Closed): http://www.antenna.com/apg_products.cgi?id_num=10930

    Magnet Base: http://www.antenna.com/apg_products.cgi?id_num=10977

Damn dude! You have anyone to help you out. Knowing me I would start off motivated, and end up drinking too much too fast, and not finishing...or breaking something.

    Good luck to ya!!!

If that was for me...Thanks, but I'm not 100% positive on the antenna info., since there's no part #s or markings on it. I am VERY novice with this particular subject, I was just going off of specs., dimensions, and the pictures.

It was, and no worries. I appreciate the info. My range hasn't been worth a damn. I need to look everything over this weekend.

If you want to wait to do the skids and CB on Tuesday I can help. Probably even the cab mounts. Your truck might fit in my garage

3' Wilson. Fiberglass tune able. After it was tuned I had no issues on our last trip. Heard everyone very clearly

I meant inside the armrest box. But if it wouldn't fit in that cargo bin under the temp controls it probably wouldn't fit where mine is. I would take that as a positive though cuz even though mine is tiny... It's kinda a tiny POS from radio shack. Lol

Right on. I was up by Detroit this last weekend and couldn't get through a half mile away. I'm gonna check everything out this weekend, but I get a feeling that my 2' Firestick ain't cutting it.

Anyone preload their front 5100s on the 1.75 setting with eibach coils? I know it says not to so I didn't but I'm thinkin a little more height in the front would be nice. It would level out the truck (the rear AAL hasn't settled as low as I thought it may)

I am on the second installment of my CB (Uniden Bearcat 880 - new model radio) and it is going right along side the hump thing (technical term) right where your illustration shows. It got a little complicated - took it in and the installer did not like the bracket so they are making one - take it back next Wednesday for the final install. Will post pics when done - but suffice it to say -- I think that is the best place for a medium/large radio. One of the things that swayed me was that Uniden will be coming out with a wireless CB mic for this thing this year - it is pictured but not available....and the face color changes - I can change the color of the light to match the amber....

    The radio:
