I think the tree was just aiming for his gigantic STi wing. You'd probably be fine.

Damn thats crazy! Props to him for being observant enough after the first scare to spot the 2nd tree and react quick enough! And ya, looks like 58 to me, part of the straights right before you start climbing up the mountains.

I had a roommate that had a good sized rock fall in front of him along that drive. Gave him a reason to buy his catback exhaust early.

He drove an Accord. the rock was a about the size of my head from what he described. He's probably exaggerating, but it ripped the snot out of the pipes and almost stole the muffler.

That's amazing you still don't have power in Junction. My girl lives out in Alpine (West of Monroe, OR) and they got their power back around 10 PM last night. Considering no one lives out there but her family, 5 other houses and a few cows, I figured they would be out for days.

Gotcha. I don't know what 02TRD's thoughts were. If he wants in and Kyoto does too, we can do two separate groups or I've got another trail that might be better for a larger scouting group... but it had more snow.

I'm looking at tripcheck and the cam for Detroit looks good, but weather report says the snow level is dropping to 3k level (we are starting around 1500 or so and the crest is 3k), so i'm watching closely.

woooooooot 26.5 hours and now i have power :)

so heres my little storm story.

my father is a track inspector for the Union Pacific RxR. Got a call that Amtrack hit a few trees coming over HWY 58, so they stopped to assess the damage between lowell and oakridge. As they were assessing damage more tress fell on top of the train. People in oakridge were dispatched to help and had to cut their way from oakridge down to the train. Took them about 4 hours to reach the train. My father an I started near the eugen train yard on the tracks and headed towards them. We get up near jasper and started cutting tress off the tracks on the head end of Amtrack. After about 3 hours of cutting our way up we made it to Amtrack. Helped get the rest of the tress off and helped lead the train down to Eugene. The front engine suffered broken fron windows, no lights worked, no bells or whistles. So every interesection on the way down Amtrack had to be flagged through. IT TOOOOKKK FOREEEVVVEEERRR.

here are a few pics i took, non of the train since it was dark and couldnt really stop helping to take any. :(

How does your dad like working for Union Pacific? I saw their job posting online and thought about applying but decided not to because one of their requirement was to be available 24/7 if needed. Other than that everything else they listed was good and seem fairly easy especially the starting salary $41,000/yr :)
